Hello Ladies and Gentlemen: I am Gary, hailing from Pittsburgh, PA, USA. I suppose you could call me a newbie to double edge shaving, being a couple months into the indulgence. To date I have purchased 4 double edge razors; 2 Mercurs, a Parker and an Edwin Jagger. I have also purchased a variety of blades, most recently a 100 pack of Astra SP, but also Shark Super Chrome, Merkur Super Platinum, Feather Platinum and Derby Extra's. So what next should I buy in my growing obsession? And by the way, thanks for all the great posts. Regards, Gary
Yes I do have an Omega badger brush and several creams and after shaves including the bay rum from this site. Very good stuff.
What do you have as far as software (soaps ect.) so we know where to point you next. If you want a peice of hardware thats a little diffrent from your 4 current razors try a parker shavette ,a single edge razor or injector (looking for an adjustable injector myself right now). Welcome to the den!
Hello Gary, I may as well introduce you to what I normally say on the subject of the new traditional shaver. When I got started this advice was given to me and I took it and it was sound advice, so I give it freely. It is what I call the 30 day rule. Find a razor, then a blade that will not cause issues with your face (that may take a few different blades in a sampler to find a suitable choice or it maybe the first out of the gate) and select a soap or cream that is easy to generate good lather. Once you find those, spend 30 days using nothing else until you build up your technique. After 30 days, change one and only one variable and work for another week. At that point you should be able to make better decisions because your technique is now in place. Oh and one last thing. Welcome to the Den. We know you'll fit right in. So grab yourself a comfy chair, and give our threads a spin! Burma Shave
Welcome to the Den, Gary!! Enjoy your stay here and Happy Shaving! The first brush I used was the Omega Pro Boar ... it is my favorite and go-to brush. I have found it works with soaps, creams; hand-lathered or bowl-lathered ... no issues here. The question is ... what scents/consistency do you prefer??
Hello Gary and a warm welcome to the Den! Have fun browsing around and enjoy those shaves. You have already a nice setup to get you going, it seems. Let this not stop you, there are plenty more razors, blades, pre- and post-shave products and, mostly, shave soaps and creams galore! Discovering those is real pleasure (mostly).
