Hi everyone. I've noticed that for the past couple of weeks or so, the performance and speed of TSD is really, really slow. When I scroll down or up there is a .5 to 1.5 second delay and the same is true when I type. I have a Verizon FIOS connection and it is quite fast and I do not have this problem with any other website. I could have two tabs open (one for TSD and another for say, Face Book ) and FB trips right along without a single hang, while TSD just creeps along. I'm using Chrome, by the way. FireFox is faster when on TSD, but I mostly use Chrome. Any ideas what might be the problem?
I'm on FF and the scroll's dandy. Occasionally though I have noticed a tad of hesitation when I'm switching around from place to place, but nothing really serious. I find that's sort of commonplace on a lot of sites these days...
Might have to start using FireFox for this site then. Could be some strange little glitch between Chrome and TSD's server. Beats me. I'll try FF for a few days. Thanks!
Coincidentally, I started noticing it when I try to scroll quickly too... Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention before.
Lemme see if maybe I can offer some advice. I'm unaware of any issues that would be causing our server to respond slowly at this time (or in the last few months). The website should operate fine on any of the major web browsers. It's always possible that there is a problem between your location and the TSD server. When using the internet, the data originates from your location, and travels to the server destination (TSD is in Dallas). It could be that there is a problem between you and our server. If I were at your end, I'd try running a test on the route. The actual term is called a tracert. If you've never done it, it's pretty simple. Essentially go to a command window, and enter the command tracert theshaveden.com This will show you the time it takes the data to pass through all the checkpoints between you and TSD, and it would also show you exactly where things slow down. The higher the number the slower the connection. *'s are bad. Here's a link with some pics. http://www.mediacollege.com/internet/troubleshooter/traceroute.html If you like, I created a mini program that will execute the entire process for you. Just download the attachment and open/run it.
I just ran a trace route from Nashville, TN to TSD. My hops take me thru Atlanta and then to Dallas. No hop exceeded 47ms, which is very good.
Am connected to the Den from South East Asia, using alternatively a Windows- and a Mac OS-based browser as well as Tapatalk, no concerns about speed. My connection at home is a 'smaller' / lower one than at work, I don't notice a difference.
I found the same problem using google chrome. After I went down to the bottom of the page and set the "default style" forum view, I had no more problems.
Blue bar at the very bottom. The style name will be on the far left in that bar that goes across the page and ends in "contact us" (and other links) and the RSS feed icon. Click on the style name to change it.
Just so you guys know, the other style listed isn't really setup for public use. I tend to use it for designing purposes, and it will usually lack features that the vintage style will include. Since I use this as a test bed, don't be surprised if you find it a bit crazy at times, including being completely unusable. This style is only selectable during periods where I am testing things, so it's availability will also come and go. I really would recommend sticking with the vintage, as I'm certain it will be more reliable, but it's your choice.
I have to admit, after trying the default style for the last 2 days, it is much better. I've never had a total bog down with the vintage style but it does lag and move slowly. The default style is quite snappy.
FWIW, I've always used the "default" style (the vintage is too dark for my tastes) and have never noticed a problem with response time.
Hey there. I've been a bit MIA on account of general business. I haven't tried the trace thing mentioned toward the beginning of this thread, but FireFox is still working just fine and I just switched to "Default" in Chrome and all seems to work much better but looks a little plain. Thanks for all of the brain storming and tips!
