    Today was quite the shave!

Post: Hot Shower/Face wash w/ Dove Extra Fresh Bar Soap
    Cream: Arko Regular
    Brush: Col. Conk 904
    Razor: Yuma
Blade: Derby Extra Super Stainless (3)
Post: Lea AS Balm/Superior 70 Bay Rum

The Arko cream (my first try) lathers up nicely....smelt a bit odd at first smell but by the end of the shave I loved it! The Derby blades are now in my favorites.....they have got me BBS every day for the past 3 days.....only minor spots of irritation which I cant gripe about because generally it was bumps on my face and also I can get 100 of them for $8 on amazon so its a win win situation. And at the rate of great shaves im getting off of each blade that 100 blades could last me 600+ shaves. The Lea Balm was a sample thrown in by Shaveabuck.com which I really liked! The Superior Bay Rum however......whenever I first opened the bottle I thought of horse piss......I gave it the benefit of a doubt.....and it STILL smelt like horse piss. About 10 minutes after my shave and the smell has indeed toned down to a delightful Bay Rum smell that iv come to know and love. As long as I can get through the initial application...its a great smelling AS. Perhaps even that smell will grow on me lol. Who knows..........and last but not least...the mighty Yuma razor.......definitely the cheapest metal I have ever held in my hand but damn it shaves good!!! It got good reviews so I could not pass it up at such a cheap price and I am glad I got it!! It will be in regular rotation until I have to buy a new one.....hell I may buy a few for back stock lol.

I've used the soap before with no issues. I am leaning toward the issue being with the blade. I will be loading a new blade tomorrow and dropping the razor adjustment back to 4. :)

I would be inclined to agree with you...think about the blade. I know everyone is different....but in my experience, any shave after #3...I had my fingers crossed!

Try the #6 setting with a new blade Bill. It sounds like the blade was pretty used up and increasing the exposure just increased the discomfort of a dull blade. (razor burn) When you put a new blade in with the #6 setting take it easy until you get the feel for it as it will be more aggressive with the extra exposure of the #6 setting. You don't want the new blade eating your cheek if you know what I mean! I don't think the Williams is the problem, it's a very mild soap. IMHO.

Well, I've just had a few shaves with the new Williams yet, so no deep founded opinion here yet. I like the scent of vintage Williams more than the new.

As for lathering, I guess I have to get used to it. The first times I lathered the new Williams, I didn't have any problems. I guess the soap / water ratio was off yesterday. Other difference was that the first times I lathered the new Williams, I first rubbed the puck over the stubbles and then used the puck on the brush. Yesterday I skipped the stubble rubbing so as to have more marinading time with the oil and proceeded with the brush.

I guess that either I've got to keep on stubble rubbing or have to find me a fitting mug to lather the brush up. :)

Reporter: Tell us what you do each and what do you use on typical morning, like today.
Me: Each morning begins with a nice long hot shower using a bar soap. Then I scrub my face with Proraso glycerin bar.Today I used a Parker badger brush. I lathered a sample of Mike's soap. I used a double edge razor made by Gillette called a Superspeed and it had one edge blade on each side made by Derby. After a couple passes I had a great DFS.
Afterwards I rub my face down with RazoRock Alum, and a splash of Ogalla Bay Rum.
