Why is Simpson so elusive in disclosing the measurements of the handles, loft and knots. I E-mailed Simpson specifically for this for certain models. I recieved a E-mail promptly back saying they were sending a catalog in which I have recieved. Its the same old catalog they have used for years with only the overall heights. A very nice looking catalog , but didn't answer any of my questions. So for those of you lucky enough to have several of these brushes could you post some info. on duke 1, harvard 3, fifty series 57. P.S They were kind enough to send me a order form from 2005 with that years current price.

I have seen emsplace thanks. The catalog page is actually the catalog I recieved from simpson. The measurements are good, but only covers what she carries.

If anybody finds Simpson's measurements (besides the one's Em's has kindly posted), please post them in this thread so we can all benefit from this most elusive information...

    Thanks

The models might only be limited to what he sells, but check out Lee's Safety Razors page here.

He gives the height of the loft, overall, and knot size.

I've never been able to get a good answer on this one either. Maybe drP can chime in with some of his Simpson knowlege.

I can only assume however, that because Simpsons hand turns and knots all their brushes, they don't issue standard dimensions because of the variation that you might find in a completely non-machine made product. As with any quality handmade product, there will always be some variation from one piece to the next. Kind of their way of not having to worry about someone complaining because their knot or loft height was a mm or two off from the specified dimensions. This is just my assumption though, from past experiences I've had dealing with particulary with pipe makers when I worked as a tobacconist.

    Mike,

You hit the nail on the head; Simpsons do vary...my PL8 fi can differ 1-2 mm in knot size from your PL8. Same counts for other Simpsons models. So the sizes given by Emily are no more (but also no less...) than guidelines.

Well, even their catalog says Approx overall heights so I wish they would do the same with the handles and knots so we know what we are buying.

You're buying a Simpson. It doesn't get any better than that :D:D:D
