Hello, im a new member. this is my first post. Thought some of you may enjoy this razor. I bought this over sized straight razor a while ago from case. I was wondering if anyone could tell me any info on it. I know its early being that its stamped Little Valley Ny, which i believe dates it anywhere from 1888- 1900. ...I eventually would like to sell it. i bought it because ive never seen one before this size and im into early advertising pieces. It is in incredible shape and has the original celluloid handle. any info from you straight razor experts would be wonderful. thanks chris
It's not oversized, That's the tiny travel sized one they made for Paul Bunyan. Interesting piece of Americana you got there. Thanks for the show and tell.
Welcome to The Shave Den. If you contact Case via their web site and send them the pictures, their company historian will be more than happy to tell you any info they have and know about it. I did that about a Case pocket knife from the 1920s I had and they were very helpful and thorough in giving me history and info.
Welcome to the Den!! Very cool piece, one of my uncles had a Case pocket knife display piece about the same sizr as your razor. I always thought it was neat that they made it exactly like the real ones, looks like they did the same with yours.
i will post here if i find any info about it. i would love to see a picture of that oversized pocket knife..that sounds cool. this case razor i have is as sharp as a regular one. made with the exact quality.
Hmmmmmm, I wouldn't quite go that far You have a display razor, made to go in a shop window or in a "Case" case or to be hung above a Case display.. They were normally made of cast metal, wood , on un-hardened steel However your does look at bit different and it does look like somebody tried to hone it, can you measure the blade length ??? from the heel to the point and the overall length when open??? I might be able to tell you a bit more once I know that...
it might not be made with the same quality but in my opinion it is as sharp as a regular straight razor. from the heel to the point it is 6" and over all open it is 19" thanks
Case Brothers,,, Were in Little Valley from 1900-1912 They were throughout NY and PA for quite some time and they operated under quite a few names but the actual "Case Brothers" stamp was according so my sources ca. 1900-1912 (Standard Guide to Razors) With a 6 inch blade it is double oversize, which leads me to think it was built for display and/or demonstration purposes... As to the sharpness question, we have to take your word at that, since it is in your hands...
