Jeff, how wet of a brush do you start with? After you load the brush are you lathering in a bowl or on your face? I've thought about loading my brush out of the tub of cream but was concerned with getting a lot of water in the tub. Thanks!
Brian, I remove some of the water from my brush, but I still make sure it is quite wet. However I don't want too much water to drip in the tub. I also lather directly onto my face. I never bowl-lather.
I treat the Wheat like a soap, and load the brush from the tub. The cream sets up pretty firmly in the tub, and rather than chase a snurdle around a bowl or evenly distributed through the brush, it's just easier to load the brush in the tub.
NOW you guys tell me, lol... Anyway thanks Jeff, it worked out pretty good, but I think 20 seconds is a bit much for my technique, I'll give it a go again tomorrow. I had plenty of lather for 4 or 5 passes which I don't need haha.
I know I'll have to play around with this but how long (time or # of swirls) do you use to load your brush in the tub? I prefer to face lather but currently I'm finding it easier to get more water into the mix while using the bowl. I may just have to take my time at the beginning on my face lather so that I'm not slinging bubble lather water all around my bathroom. Jeff, do you have a face lathering tutorial? I'll look around to see, but if not would you consider putting one together and sharing your expertise?
Yeah, if you were trying to face lather by place a snurdle of cream in the brush, and then trying to add water, it probably won't mix well. Whereas, if you load the brush from the tub, the cream is distributed better on the brush bristles and should mix with the water easier. I'm not technical in any form or fashion so I couldn't tell you a time or number of swirls for loading your brush. I use my intuition to tell me when my brush is loaded. Besides I always use more product than necessary. (I have too much stuff. I have to make it go away somehow. )
To be honest, I have no tutorials at all. Expertise? Not even - I use mostly creams from tubes, not tubs, but every so often I use this great menthol-rich cream of JoAnna's, as well as the soap version. As I stated earlier, I never bowl-lather, and my technique is very simple. A reasonably wet brush swirled in the cream for around 20 seconds gives me so much of rich, creamy lather for a shave of as many passes I want.
When I palm lather, I generally use a wetter brush, and don't add to the mix... I'll keep dinking around with the tub method though, maybe swap brushes too, either way I'm thinking bowl or tub is gonna eat product at the same rate.
Not sure I can help ya. I never start out with all my water. That's not how I lather. If I do that with any product I get bubbles or thin lather. I always add water slowly. Basically, if you're trying to break up a snurdle (a larger mass) it's gonna be more difficult to use whatcha got. Whereas smaller bits of cream picked up when the brush is loaded from the tub will be easier to incorporate with the water. If that makes sense.
Well, I used the ISZ cream just before with my technique, (I removed quite a bit of water) and it worked perfectly. I had rich, creamy and stable lather which gave me a perfect shave.
I don't know if I was the guy, but I was one of them, and I'm happy to report that I love that stuff! I have the Iced SubZero with the extra shot of menthol.
SS, if you can remember back a couple of years (Not likely, I'm aware!), do you remember what specific adjustments you made to 'fix' your lather? I have been having 'issues' with the light/airy lather like you had in your photos with a couple of different products recently and I'm not sure what I'm doing differently when the issue does and does not rear its ugly head.
