There's been a lot of discussion on identifying the various Gillette SS's. Sometimes you kinda have to piece things together. Books, pictures and the Site for Gillette razor and blade dating help. It was great that Gillette started with serial numbers and then added the year and quarter codes. Sometimes you have to rely on other hints. In the first picture below the first razor on the left is not a SS. It is a Ranger Tech manufactured for the Holiday season of 1941. Notice the shiny band above the TTO knob, nor did it have caps on the end rails. 2nd is the first 1947 SS; it can be identified because it did not have the blade notch. These can be seen in the lower picture. In mid 1948 Gillette added the blade notch for their new dispenser. The razor in the cardboard box is a 1948 SS. In 1949 Gillette came out with the clear and red styrene case as shown on the right in the back. Sometimes you get the instructions with a copyright date as shown with the 1949. The three remaining razors are a 1958 TV SS (notice the knurling on the handle), a 1963 SS and last a 1966 SS all identified by date code. With all razors, if there is no date code or serial number ya have to rely on the physical characteristics of the razor like the blade well and knurling, packaging and instructions or pictures if you can find them. You'll be pretty durn close! [vbpg]768[/vbpg] [vbpg]769[/vbpg]
Excellent Post, Steve :happy088 :happy096 Very informative! And, those are some great looking shavers.
Thsi is the worst type of shave porn to one who is adicted to Super Speeds. I have seven at home and have sworn not to acumulate any more.
Oops. Yes, I am. Unfortunately, the bus is in the shop for repairs at the moment. That last trip was pretty rough on the ol' gal. I told Will and Joe the bus would NOT run better with Aqua Velva in the tank. But did they listen? NO! "Everything runs better with Aqua Velva!" they said.
:rofl :rofl That may take a while to fix all of that damage! I don't think Mike can wait for us so............go ahead Mike......start without us! Wow JoAnna, I just got off the phone with my technician and I had to explain what AV was................. could cost us thousands!
Don't worry, I have connections. The bus should be up and running in time for the TSD Halloween tour. ::
Very funny Joanna. Perhaps I can put Acqua Velva in my cars' tank. Don't like driving so I tend to take a bus to and from work. Perhaps thecounty should put Acqua Velva in the buss's tank.
Absolutely! D.C. would be much better with AV fumes from the buses! :: Perhaps it would help decrease the crime rate.
