I know thats Jody's favorite injector....and Thats sayin' something...lol...It takes a really special Schick to pull a Gillette-i master away from a Gillette...lol I always thought that Revere would be very hip...weight and balance wise.... And isn't it suppose to be: One pass if on land and 2 if by cruise ship....or something like that..?
Well, even this Schick gives way to what is in this week's haul for me. The Senator, Sheraton and even #1 may be in severe trouble ... http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/the-haul-july-16th-2012-july-22nd-2012.29395/#post-514893
Congratulations my friend....I only hear these razors mentioned in hushed tones.....Appears to be a solid 'Holy Grail' and a sure contender for best shaver...period......She looks good.....does this mean you might be settling down?.....
Nice Paul Revere. I remember having one back in the day, got it free in the mail. If I remember correctly you sent in something from a package of blades and they sent you the handle. Sure wish I would've held onto it...
I bet you, there a one or two other things you wish you had held on to aswell...? I could fill a library with the names of all the stuff I wish I had held on too...lol Thats pretty cool though...You got your Revere wear handle for free !! I remember them..but seems to me they were always on the pricy side....and at the time...I never thought of keepin' anything....
Man, every now and again I get caught up in getting great shaves from one of my DE's...but then, like today I go to grab a quick injector shave...and it just knocks me out so hard...I have to stop and give credit where credit is due.... Col. Schick was a genius !! I will never understand why the Injector didn't win the razor wars..... My Baby....Whenever I used to see one it made my heart jump a little. remembering watching my Dad with one when I was a kid.... Now it makes my heart jump a little in anticipation of the great shave I'll get the next time I pick it up....
Knocked out a shave this morning with an E type, a vintage Schick Plus Platinum blade and vintage Williams soap. Heck of a way to end the work week/start the weekend!
Have you Guys seen this Razor Popularity Contest: http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/the-razor-popularity-contest.29427/page-5 From the looks of things....no one who uses Schick Injectors other than me has cast a vote....Shame to see all the A, B, C, E's, and G's getting Diss'ed like this... Fellow Injector Lovers....cast your votes....I hate for Noob's to see this and think Injectors just don't rate.....
Hey man....you deserve it!! You didn't scratch and claw your way to the top of the food chain just to eat salad, or get just an adequate shave either....
Loaded the same blade into a G8 and got another superb shave. I'm down to just a handful of those vintage Schick plus platinum blades, I'd love to find some more because they are superb.
I'm down with that.....Plus Plats were the standard I used to judge other blades for years....guess I still do....
I've been shaving with a G8 injector for about 6 months (legs and underarms). It's a good shave, I like the razor's weight, and is easing me into "real" shaving. The blade angle is very forgiving: at worst I do another pass, no cuts or bad nicks, and I'm still learning. I can buy good blades at the drug store! The razors themselves are an affordable way to test traditional shaving. Plus it's pretty The Bakelite-esque ribbed handle, gold tone all-metal head, and sturdily built. It's fallen more than a couple times and is none the worse for wear.
Here's a Schick injector I have that is a bit of an oddity, and I'd like one of the injector gurus see if my theory is possible. It's an E type made before 1946 because it just says Schick Injector on the spring, not Eversharp-Schick which started with the G types, and it only has one patent number. There are flaps on the side of the spring, but it has the molded plastic handle with seams that the G types have and not the solid, seamless Bakelite handle that the E types had. Since it seems to be a mix of E and G traits my guess is that this razor was possibly one of the last E's made as they were transitioning to the molded plastic handles for the G types, but still had some of the E frames laying around so they used them up. Does that sound reasonable?
I used my injector for all the two weeks (July 14-28) I was gone with the National Guard. 7 days in the field and the rest back at the barracks.
Easing Nothing.....That Schick G8 is the real thing!! the reason why it feels like its easing you is because its sooo good....And I agree...I've always thought the G8 was a beautifly shaped handle... I know you were looking for a longer handle handle razor...If you like the way an Injector shaves, you owe it to youself to check out the Lady Eversharp or the Schick Golden 500....They might be a tad milder than your G8....but they have very long handles and still give a great Schick shave....plus they have the Hydro-magic lever which allows you to rinse out the blade area without having to remove the blade....All in all a great piece of shaving kit....
Wow Tom...I don't know but your theory sure makes since....I hope Gary or Slivovitch or someone else with more experiance than I, will field this one....I'd like to know the answer myself... Beautiful razor Tom...looks like pure shaving satisfaction.......waiting to happen...
Choosing a DE razor was easily more intimidating than the idea of relearning to shave! There are so many options, and not as much info for women. The G8 was a great way to start without having to overthink the options. The Hydro-magic swively spring is a great feature, I'll keep an eye out for one. Next up I'll try different blades.
Schick blades from the drug store. They're the only ones I've used so can't really have an opinion on them, except that they do the job and last several shaves. Any suggestions?
