Well.....im seeing more and more people with Apple computers/laptops. What is the appeal with apple. As far as i remember, most of the programs out there are PC based. They seem alot more expensive as compared to a PC. SURE......You dont get all the lovely PC viruses......but is it really worth all the extra costs?
Just my 2ยข worth here. But as a long time Apple user, there are a coupla things that stand out to me: a) Up until recently, there were next to NO viruses or trojan horses that could attack the OS. Part of it was the software's architecture, but part of it was that Macs had a MUCH smaller segment of the market, so nobody was going to waste their jollies on a small sabotage job. That is changing with the new OS that will also run Windoze programs with Boot Camp. b) The user interface is always on. No DOS stuff that pops up when you have problems or get error messages when you boot up. Yeah, they are more expensive. And for a while, you really had to be a fan and advocate for yourself, because it was tough to find software, hardware and support. So Mac addicts are really "one" with their computers, and we can find off-beat software and work arounds because we've HAD to.
Here was my real thought. I thought i would go to an Apple store and have them convince me to buy one of their computers....instead of buying a new Dell
They do look dead sexy....but alas...i think ill be going with a Dell. I dunno....just comfortable with PC's..and I dont like having to look for Mac compatible stuff.
FORCE QUIT...takes forever on a PC. It's instantaneous on a Mac. I use both an prefer a Mac over the PC anyday. Jim
You do have to worry about programs and wht not dont you? Its not like...lets say i wanna play...the new RollerCoaster game....and its PC....means im stuck since its not mac right.......or has Apple started to allow PC programs.
Hi Isaac. One word Go Mac..and your life will change for the better it really will. no more worries for trojans, viruses , microsoft minute and crap like that. also security is way cool not that easy to hack into OSX. my background: Bought an Apple PPC7500 in 1997 to do music for the sound studio I was building. The OS back then was 7.5 when I got in and based on motorola chip back then. I skipped the G3, G4 and G5 designs. by that time I was working with the company laptop I used for my work. I had almost stopped using the Mac from 2002/2003 till now. Untill Apple them geniouses released such a powerhouse I couldnt help but drool over it drool:drool. Dual processors Intel chip based Computers. They are so fast they laugh at anything you throw at them audio wise and even video coding wise. so if your into audio/video these machines are beast. They are so fast they can run if you still need XP based software it can run the XP OS for you parrallel with your OSX that means with one click your inside your usual PC enviroment and 1 click your back into OSX. Software wise its a breeze these days with OSX its totally accepted now not the way when it was 1997 , I thought id have trouble switching back to OSX after being so used to XP for a few years. everything I did with XP I found similar way better programs on OSX ! If you buy an apple with INTEL chip your getting a machine that can do , OSX, XP, Vista, Linux, IRIX, UNIX. its massive ! Software wise nothing to worry I can talk you thru it via PM . One word of advice WARNING ! when your running XP parralells on a Mac you have a real PC system there so you can be attacked by the same viruses and trojans for PC's so be just as carefull. Incase for really hardcore PC cloning the new Leopard OSX soon to be released has BootCAMP buildin..that means you can boot your Apple in 100% PC . this is very handy for playing for example all PC games out there. Once you go by this machine your good for the next 15 years ! can you say the same for your Dell ? I know no matter how complex audio software gets for the next 10 years I bet my aftershave stock they cant max the CPU ! I have a Dual Core 2,66Ghz Intel Tower. all the stuff a PC can a Mac does faster, easier, better. so the choice of being a hardcore Mac dude aint so anymore. the Tower might be overkill for you it really depends what is your goal, use for it. Im not sure if Apple sells the eMac with an Intel chip but my advice is if you go MAC dont buy the old systems (G5) go for INTEL based macs any model you will have the world in your hands...
I really enjoy Dell's.....but....they are a bit pricey. Ive been suck with a Gateway for a few years now....... Rene....well have to talk about the Apple
My department has two million PCs and twenty Macs. The Macs generally spend their day cranking out covers for departmental reports and correspondences. Other than that its a PC world. Let's face it Macs were designed for desktop publishing PC can't touch them on that score. Other than that you don't want a Mac for anything at all. What people have been saying is true up until three years ago. At that point no one ever attacked a mac it was just not worth it. Microsoft was so much of an easier target. Three years ago that all changed. Macs became much easier target. Microsoft had spent the last ten years getting its security house in order. Apple did not. It became real hard to attack a Microsoft based PC. As a consequence hackers started to work on the Mac, which was a much easier target. Today if you want to be the subject of a hack or a virus attack get a Mac. Wan't security get a PC. Its just much easier to attack a mac.
Haha......ive always respected Dell. When my sister needed a new comp two months ago.....guess what....I set her up with a Dell
I love those commercials.....but heres the thing. PROPAGANDA or is it...very clever marketing campaign none the less.
In all honesty, people ask me all the time about the latest laptops and desktop, I have no clue anymore. I work on server and storage products exclusively. If you are interested in a new PowerEdge 2900 and maybe some SAS attached storage to go with it, I could give you a few pointers, hehe Probably going to want an LTO-3 autoloader to back up all your MP3's and stuff too.
