Just got my order from bullgoose. I don't care for soaps, but I do like this one. You can only face lather it, as bowl lathering does not seem to work very well. I'll be buying refill pucks for this one.:) Is it sheep's gift to mankind? No. But it is a very good soap with a light, pleasant scent. The ceramic bowl is a nice touch that sets it apart from other soap manufacturers.

If you don't buy the ceramic bowl the Tabac bowl will only have foreigners as neighbors.
Another reason to go for ceramic is there are so many wooden bowl, yet not that many ceramic.
One more reason is the lid tells you what's in it. If you start to have many soaps it's nice you can read the lid.
But in the end it is personal preference.

    Very Nice!! :happy088:

I've found great success at both face and bowl lathering MWF. The one caveat is that I have a water softener. However, all things being equal ... soaps like Institut Karite and Gold Dachs take more work for me to bowl lather. As long as I adequately load MWF on my brush, the lather seems to explode after working water in. I always generate too much lather in a bowl. It does take a little time compared to a cream and some soaps, but it's not entirely impossible within a reasonable amount of time. I usually face lather during the week anyway as I don't have as much time. I'll work it more on the weekends for a luxurious lather in a bowl ... and MWF fortunately obliges me. YMMV, of course, as noted in your post.

    [edit:some grammatical, clarify]

I've found that the best way to use MWF is to keep it hydrated. If you have the MWF ceramic bowl, fill it with water until the water barely covers the puck. Let it sit overnight. Continue adding water every day or two as the puck absorbs it. within 3-5 days the puck will swell to fill the container perfectly. Now that it is properly hydrated, it lathers just like any other quality soap, with no special treatment required.:happy088:

MWF keeps getting shunted in my to-try list thanks to all these new things coming in. I feel bad, almost like it's an initiation ritual I just somehow have neglected. Can't wait to try it in the near future though. The ceramic bowl looks so nice in person.

With all the soap I have sitting on the shelf. I stopped feeling bad about the ones I haven't tried yet. Simply too many good soaps and creams to try the all.

Of course sitting here reading about all of the great shaves makes it hard. :ashamed001:

I'm with you DLP. I think I have a soap problem too. I thought I would have a problem wanting to collect razors but now that I have a tool I really like it's mostly soap I keep wanting to buy even though I really don't need it. Soooo much soap out there, so little time.

This is one soap I just knew I would love...and I was right. I had my sister pick up several pucks on a trip she took to London (actually, I didn't want to leave anything to chance, so i ordered them from Amazon's UK site and had them shipped to where she was staying). I keep the puck in a plastic tub that originally housed 100ft of 35mm film. Works great...but I'm still tempted by the ceramic bowl.

What is so special about this bowl? Are you folks talking about the one that is shaped like a sheep?

Nothing is special. It just looks great, and is ceramic.

No, the one that looks like a sheep is for their hand soaps. See above. The nice thing about the shave soap bowl is you can hydrate your puck in it and the puck will fill the bowl...well that and the cool retro factor.:)

Simple ... I can't think of any other shaving soap available in a ceramic container. They may exist, but I don't know of any. Wood bowls and metal (aluminum) tins seem quite common. In my mind, the rarity of the ceramic container and the cool retro lettering make it a "must" for a shaver with acquisition disorder. Fortunately, the soap is pretty darn good too!

Just curious, is the Tabac soap container ceramic or plastic?
I've only bought refills, so I don't know.

i have been using this soap for the past week since reading this thread reminded me how great mwf is.....and i still agree this is a must-have item in the shave den.
doesnt the ceramic dish make anyone worry about breakage from slipping on a tile floor?

All my soaps are in their own glass dish.
All my lather bowls are ceramic or glass.
If I worried about breaking them I'd never be able to enjoy them.
