so, I'be been thinking. I know, I know, it's dangerous for me to think! LOL Anyway, I have heard about, and I like, the cooling effects of mentholated products on a hot summers day. But what about the colder winter months? Is there a cream/soap or other product that does the opposite of menthol? You know, a nice warming sensation on the skin. I REALLY need to know otherwise I'm breakin' out a puck of VDH deluxe and a bottle of chili oil!
Can't say I've heard of any kind of soap with a warming effect. Can't say that I'd mess with the chili oil, either. The difference between bravery and stupidity? The outcome.
Ok that's interesting. I've found I need something that cools, never thought about something warming. But if your gunna do it.................. Pics Please!!!!!!!
I think Gillette makes (or made?) a gel (non-aerosol) that supposedly warms. I would definitely NOT use any amount of chili oil... it will be very irritating to your eyes and nose. Think shaving with pepper spray. Capsaicin (the chemical that makes hot peppers hot) is not to be messed with. However, a small amount of cinnamon will give you a warming effect and will be much safer. But, very small amounts or your skin will be irritated. Use at your own risk.
Rosemary oil has a slight warming effect doesn't it? Using Chili Oil would be a very, very, very bad idea. Along the same lines of using OC spray for eye drops.
It sounds a bit precarious to be using warming agents on open pores and around your eyes and nose. When I think of things that have the opposite of a menthol effect, I think of Deep Heat and products like that... which is not something I'd want in my eyes.
That's what I was thinking - however with my curiosity being completely overwhelming I've been hitting up google like a madman for a while and have discovered a few things: 1) Most "warming" products are a result of chemical reactions of the ingredients, putting this in the difficult/potentially dangerous/useless column. 2) Using any type of natural hot pepper or derivative thereof is also rather insane. 3) Some natural face masks popular with the ladies have Rosemary Oil (No clue on how the scent would work out) as the primary ingredient and while it's not as noticable as a potent menthol product, it does at least provide a slight warming and 99.9% of users have no issues with the herbal oil on their face. Of course, this is use at your own risk advice, but is slightly better than rubbing your face down with a Naga Jolokia lol
You could try using small amounts of capsaicin cream, commonly used for arthritis pain. Think icy hot without the ice. The amount of heat in the creams is regulated and controlled, unlike pepper extracts used in food processing or pepperspray (or even paint remover!). No matter what happens, be safe and smart. Start with a little and see what happens. Hand Sanitizer does a good job of stripping capsaicin from the skin in case things ever get out of hand.
Howdy! If warmth is what you want, just use whatever non-menthol soap or cream you have. Use a warm water scuttle and produce warm lather for shaving. I do it every time I shave. Always, Gene
Someone on one of the other forums tried a similar experiment. IIRC a small amount of tabasco or chili powder was added to the lather. Let's just say the results were memorable. Applying hot sauce to freshly abraded skin is one of the less bright ideas out there. JoAnna's suggestion has some merit though. Let us know how things work out. You can be the "Official TSD Guinea Pig".
Okay, okay! so chili oil was over the top. I was only half-serious anyway. In my invetsigation, I've found some bath soaps that are supposed to have the warming effect I was looking for. I've found that bay, peppermint, rosemary and clove EO's are warming. I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid. I wouldn't put any of these on my face or around my eyes without thoroughly checking them out first. I just figured someone might know of a product that already did what I wanted.
Well there was Mudder Focker, from Italian Barber, it was one of the limited run soaps with 100 made. It contained thermal mud. I don't know if he has any left or if it has any warming effect.
