I thought it would be fun to tell everyone what one of our favorite childhood toys was. Most likely, you can find a pic of it on google images. Even if you don't know the exact name. I started out with a description. It was listed, and upon clicking on one of the images, I was able to get the name of the toy.

So here is mine. It is a 1979 Tonka Wing Commander. I remember this one vividly and I had it when I was about 5-6 years old. It had a black trigger underneath that you squeezed to make the props spin. The black level on the top retracted and let down the landing gears. And of course room for a pilot. I have reflected on this one several times over the years. So much so, that I found them being listed on ebay and I am buying one for my son for a gift. So he can play with the same plane that I enjoyed. My wife did the same once. She bought the strawberry shortcake doll that she had when she was 3 on ebay and still has it. Enjoy the pic!

We had a Lionel train set my old man bought new in the early 60's. He layed out the track on a sheet of plywood along with the control transformer. The engine was modeled after a steam locomotive and was fairly large, heavy and rugged. Lol we used to make it go too fast just to see it crash. They sure don't make em' like that any more...

One of my favorite toys was Skeletor's Snake Mountain. This one was better than Castle Greyskull because it had the trap door at the top and the mic that you could speak into. Mine was a hand-me-down from my cousin, so it was missing a few pieces, but that didn't matter to me (a 5 year old with a wild imagination and love of He-Man!).

Intellivision...and I still own a couple of them today! My favorite games on it? A toss up between Space Hawk, Microsurgeon and Night Stalker.

Every family BBQ on Sundays me and my cousins would play this until our fingers went numb, after dinner.

My Commodore 64. I spent who knows how many hours playing Zork, various Ultima incarnations, and many other games.

Oh, and way better than my brother's Atari 2600. The 2600 was cool, but the games cost more and you couldn't save, etc...

fascinating- but it won't have the 8 bit awesomeness of Ultima IV. And are they just ignoring the other 4 sequels? Weird.

Richard Garriott isn't involved. Thank you for the heads up, though.

Thomas the Tank Engine and G.I. Joes and a whole bunch of Hot Wheels cars and Matchbox Cars, Tonka Trucks, Semi Trucks, Toy guns.

I had a ton of both of those growing up. The trains stayed with me, I went through so many toy guns, gave a few of my G.I. Joes and their weapons away, and donated a few of my semi trucks. Everything else will be passed down to my kids.

I remember that! I don't recall if I had one or if it was a friend of mine to be honest. But I do remember playing with it. Nothing better than making a spaceship look destroyed!

I'll have to see if I can find a pic, but I also loved those Nerf popguns.

Without question, my most favorite toy was the GI Joe Action Marine, that I got for Christmas in 1965. This is a photo I found online. My dad was a Marine who had served in Korea and who ended up going to Vietnam in 1966, so there was no question about what branch of the armed forces my GI Joe would be.

I kept Joe neatly stored in his box with his weapons for years. Around 1990, I was chatting with a coworker about toys and I mentioned Joe. He got very excited and asked if he could see it. I brought Joe to work and the guy flipped out -- he offered me $100 on the spot! I was much more interested in getting a new Canon EOS SLR than in keeping this old toy stored in a box, so I took the offer gladly. The $100 went toward the new camera, alright, and I certainly did enjoy the camera much more than having Joe stored in his box in a closet, but now, the camera is long gone and I wish I still had the little guy.

The neighbors had a 30'x60' (ish) garden and when they'd harvest and till it up, my brother, me, and the neighbor kid would make a river with the garden hose and race leaves until the ground got too wet and it all turned to mud, then we'd tear into it with the Tonka toys.

    Good fun.
