Okay, this is weird, I know, but on boring days in the house I used to love to thump the spring door stop just to hear the sound it made.

I also used to take brown grocery bags cut a hole in the bottom and then two holes in the sides near the bottom and cover it with aluminum foil. Presto! A suit of armor. My brother and I would go out into the pasture as knights and fight the middle age wars together.

Flicked on many a doorstop and also played many paper football games in my time. Excellent score Padre! Simplistic and pure.

Wow, I remember those Nerf bows. My sister and I both had one growing up. We used to spend hours in backyard shooting each other. :D

Nothing wrong with that. My cat has kept himself amused for many hours with the spring door stops in my apartment doing the same thing. :)

Yep, I remember the nerf bow as well. It seemed to be the only nerf launcher that didn't use disappearing ammo. On the other hand If you were any distance away you could just step out of the way. Modern toys just don't have it anymore. Well, most don't. My cousin and I just bought $200 worth of these:

It's a combination of Lasertag and Call of Duty. It's called Light Strike and it's a blast. I guess one can grow up, but immaturity lasts forever.:D

Of course what 6-year old Texas boy didn't shoot bb guns? The one my brother and I shot looked like an M1 Garand. The is the crossman version:

By the time I was 7 I was shooting a 20 ga. shotgun and .22 cal rifles regularly. Just part of growing up on the farm.

Does anybody remember "Stompers"? They were a HUGE rave amongst kids in my area in the early 1980's[IMG] you could interchange foam and rubber wheels, have "stomper wars" where you pitted your own stomper against a buddy's to see which one would outpush the other. They operated on a AA battery, but if you were adept with a solder (I wasn't), you could wire a 9 volt to them and they would scream!

That would be very cool! Now did yours look like the Garand or did it look like the M1 Carbine in the picture?

The carbine. You pushed the barrel into the stock to pump the gun. So it couldn't be like the full Garand.

This is about all I did as a kid. At least until dark, then it was Nintendo.

I remember getting many pinched fingers from flicking the Doorstops in my house...and lots of time outs too! ;) I loved doing that as a kid...I can't believe I forgot about it.

Awesome pics and stories every one. Also, I might add that I have very much enjoyed all the various generations contributing to this thread. It goes to show, that no matter the era you live in, the imagination is timeless. You could go back in time 1000 years, give a two year old child some legos, a toy sports car, a doll/action figure, a hula hoop and so on...I guarantee that their imagination will be at work.

    Was it these kind?

My guess is you also put your ear next to the telephone guy wires that run to the ground and flick it with your finger. Sounded like a laser gun to me.
