: Great price!! Thats the Gem Jr. correct? If you like the way the 1912's shave you'll actually like the way the "Baton" handle works. Looks a little funny but gives you a good grip.
The older you get the more you'll appreciate being able to keep a 'grip' on things!-). Actually that's probably one of the first Ergonomically engineered personal hygiene devices.
Although It will feel a little strange at first, I think you'll like the handle. The Gem Jr. gives a nice close shave in my experience. Just take it slow and remember little to no preasure and watch your angle. Will this be your first shave with a "straight on a stick"? Make sure the blade stops are in good shape(not sheared or broken) or the blade won't seat correctly and can move on you as you shave.
First SE shave it will be! I certainly like the way the razor feels in my hand. I also have a micromatic at home which I haven't used yet.
The Micromatics are nice and shave close also. I just never could find any love with them or the 1914's . The 1912 series (1912,Gem Jr., and Damaskeene) are great and they each shave a little differently! The 1924's and G-Bars are nice also.
Just a note on the 1914's. I found that the little pieces which hold the blade in properly tend to have worn away on many of them. It makes proper blade placement near impossible. You might want to be careful with this model.
While SE's in general are my favorite razors, and the 1912 patent razors are my favorite design of them all, I don't care for the large, Bakelite handles. They were known as the Baton handle, and even though I have and use several of the Gem and Treet versions, I just don't like the feel as much as the traditional metal handles. I did name my first one Darth Razor. Pretty clever, huh?
