The smoothest for me, based on my limited experience with different blades, would be the Feather, without a doubt.
Feathers feel smoothest to me & to my husband as well. I don't worry much about longevity; after 1.5 leg shaves, I replace any blade I have tried.
Treet, GEM Blue Star and CVS brand carbon steel SE blades, and the Personna 74, Schick Plus Platinum and the Chinese made Schick injector blades always deliver.
Curious to know how fast they wear out in your case. Mine last a full 5 days (2 passes each day) in any razor I have tried so far EXCEPT my Merkur open combs, they somehow seem to wear the Feather out faster (3-4 shaves)
Man have you opened a Pandora's Box of YMMV....Blades probably more than any other facet of 'Wet Shaving' is loaded with the 'YMMV Factor'...I suggest you try all the ones you see people using in the 'SOS Thread', and tell 'US' what 'YOU' think...thats really more important...But for the sake of suggesting blades to be sure you try..... For DE's: Perma-Sharp Super (my best, every blade great but I only get 3 shaves, never more) Used to love Rapiras, and Astras...but not so much any more...Let me rephrase...still love Rapira SS's...can't stand Astras SP's...use to love the Stainless, don't know anymore, haven't used one in a while....YMMV For Injectors: Personna 74, Schick Plus Platinum and the Chinese made Schick injector blades always deliver....and the various rebranded Personnas like EMS, Ted Pella, Longs Drugs, CVS, etc....
Man....You've just opened a Pandora's Box of YMMV....Blades probably more than any other facet of 'Wet Shaving' is loaded with the 'YMMV Factor'..... I suggest you try all the ones you see people using on the 'SOS Thread'...Then tell us what you think of them...That would be more important... But for the sake of some suggestions of what to put in your 'Custom Blade Sampler' Heres a link to a test that Gary did on blades...I think its one of the best comparisons I've seen...: https://sites.google.com/site/gdcarrington1/home/de-blade-challenge-iiAnd I guoted Tom above for the best Injector choices....and I'll also add the rebranded Personnas like EMS, Ted Pella, Longs Drugs, CVS, etc. all the Personnas are similar and consistant...especially when compared to DE blades...
I had my first Feather shave on Monday. Man was that smooth. They don't have much longevity though. Now I think that's a special occasion blade for me.
Nope, the packaging is yellow and white stripes and has red lettering saying the following, Treet Dura Sharp Double Edge Blade. Bullgoose has them and they sell for: a pack of 10 blades for $2.29 100 blades for $13.75
I have personally found that the Wal-Mart Personas and Wilkinson Swords to be smooth on my face. Derby's give a fantastic shave but they feel very draggy to me. I just ordered some Treet Platinums and they give an excellent shave albeit a tad harsh. UPDATE!! (ala Robert Stack) Just received a 100 count package of Voskhod DE blades from the Shaveden Shop. New #1! Rimei DE's first runner up, then Wilkinson's, then Treet Platinum, and last are Derby's, even though I still love the Derbys shave-wise (meaning a clean shave despite the dragging sensation).
Lloyd, in your honor as the Great Defender of Personna Injector Blades, I just loaded one into a PAL Injectomatic for tomorrow morning. Of course, I had to remove the blade from the *$^^@!& piece of %&^# Personna dispenser and load it into a Schick dispenser first, but it's in there, ready and waiting.
Hey man..I don't except that honor...I'm sure there is someone more deserving....If I had the metal despensers around, I'd probably keep a few loaded...I think loading them is fun...but I love every aspect of 'Injector Life"....now I'll except that title....Injector Junkie... But I appreciate your thinking of me...and I do sincerly wish you a grand shave tomorrow.... Its funny...day before yesterday I had my blade dispenser freeze while loading....this was the first time in like a year....and I thought of you....lol And I was being gentle as a kitten.....I think I may need to invest in a few Schick Injectors...I do think loading them is fun. but I like to load a few....kind of like a loading party...and then not deal with it for a while.... And Tom, just for the record I think the 74's are tops and then every Schick blade I ever tried...the Plat-plus' 1st, and all the Schick blades rock...But I do prefer the rebranded Personnas to just about all DE blades except maybe the Perma-Sharp Supers might be a draw... But I don't have the experience that so many of the cats around here have in trying blades...But these are my preferences....
Astra Keramiks It was not included in my testing, because I knew I enjoyed their smoothness and they were out of production. A few may still be floating around.
