I was thinking of what to use a lather bowl, up until now i was lathering in a coffee mug. And I remebered i bought my mom a black marble mortat and pestle a few years ago but she is not using it , so she gave it to me , and I haven't used it for it's designated purpose in a long time. So the mortar became a lather bowl Here are some pics (sorry for the really, really poor quality but my camera died, and my cell phone camera takes pictures like this ): I'll post some better pics if i get my cam up and running, too bad for the poor quality because the bowl really is beutiful, and it cost about 20$ a few years ago, the only draw back is the weight
How wide is it at the mouth? I have one that looks very similar except there is no ring around the mouth and it's a mottled green color. I find the weight an advantage it feels secure in my hand while I whip up my lather.
I would so use this. Looks nice and secure and would be very attractive just sitting out on a countertop.
The weight could be a plus, I think - if you don't mind keeping it in the one spot. The stability of it due to the weight would be nice. Does it heat up with hot water at all?
The marble soaks the heat from the water fast and it keeps it's temp , but if you want it to be warm you have to pour HOT water in it, because it's quite a massvie piece of rock, and it needs a lot of heat.
