Since you adopted the wet shaving method and using traditional shave gear/soaps; has there ever been a time when you used a cartridge/disposable razor or canned goo?

I suppose there maybe situations where you have no choice, sometimes I travel hand luggage only so have to buy blades at the other end if possible, so far I have been able to get blades

Sometimes, when I notice that the spot directly beneath my nose has more stubble than decency allows, I pick up my Wilkinson Sword Premium/Titanium/Whatever razor and use the single blade on the back of the cartridge to trim it. It only take a half second, and is easier than using a DE.

I just use water or some lather-less cream to shave with.

But I have no qualms about using a cartridge razor in a pinch. And I think I have done so once after I started with DE shaving.

Actually, I am quite curious about the old Gillette Sensor or other one or two bladed alternatives.
Perhaps I have seen the commercial for the Dollar Shave Club to many times :)

Yeah me too also, I have been lucky so far (plus my main air travel is to the inlaws so I usually have a small stash there lol) and I know the local area.

NEVER canned goo but travelling overnight for business I just take my old Sensor Excel. I still have a stack of carts I purchased in bulk when on sale so might as well use them up.

With a decent travel brush and lather the results are acceptable, although I still love that first shave after coming home!

Although I still have my 30+ year old Trac2 I can honstly say I've never had the urge to use it again since I started using REAL razors. If I were forced to use it again I would definately NOT USE CC(canned crap) since you can find Van der Hagen or Williams pretty much in every town......:)

I've used the Gillette Guard a few times and have no hesitation doing so again. It's a fantastic cartridge razor system, though I think it's closer to a DE system than a typical cartridge system.

Nope. Never. Once I went DE, I never looked back and I do not plan to.

I'm not sure what traditional gear is ? IMHO any razor that is not a str8 is non traditional. I use a little of everything when it comes to gear. I have a new Battery powered Schick Quattro on the rack, next to a W&B wedge. So, I'm not a die hard when it comes to "traditional gear". ( I do not use disposable razors, because they are wasteful)

I have not used canned goo since I started. I might though use canned goo again, if the only soap available was new Williams mug. ;) I'm sure I'm not the only wet shaver that thinks this way.

Traditional, old school, new school or modern. It's all about enjoying the act of shaving.

Nope - I would use my pocket knife and bacon grease before I would ever do that again! All that stuff is :ban:

Far too happy with DE, SE, Rolls and real soaps & creams. And I see a str8 looming on the distant horizon!

I was really curious to see how the cartridge would fair with some good technique and didn't want to waste them. Ended up with razor burn, redness and the results though seemingly close, didn't last very long..soo...

I don't think so, unless it was an absolute emergency. I'd use canned caca before I use a cartridge. I've used canned caca with a DE before, used a good blade and I got a fine shave that more than covered me.

I use a cartridge and some kind of brushless cream (canned foam or KMF / Alba, etc.) when I travel.
I usually need a quick, easy shave and I don't want to deal with DE and blades for air travel.

A fatboy? Is that a chubby guy like me with a straight razor? Seriously, I have my prefered method of shaving but it wouldn't be that big of a deal for a shave or two. You'd just have to get your mind right, whisker removal with no joy.

I wasn't able to pick any of the poll questions.

If you had "Yes, because I like shaving with cartridge razors." I would have picked it.

No, I would not go back to the latest Gillette multi-bladed razor if you paid me. Same goes for the canned gel. I have discovered the Trac II razors since I got into wet shaving, and I enjoy using one of them at least once every couple of weeks. In a pinch, I would be willing to use Barbasol. but I honestly have not used a canned shaving cream since I started wet shaving. I bought the Trac II for a travel option and liked it. So I bought a couple more handles. I have yet to take any of them on a trip, I always seem to pack a DE instead.:)

I still use a Gillette Atra handle and blades from time to time, mostly on my head after I've shaved it with a DE... just to do clean-up. But I have never, since beginning wet shaving, and will never use any shaving cream/gel/foam/liquid from a can.

I agree almost 100%. I like carts too. Really they have been around for 50 years, that seems pretty traditional to me. I though would use pro-glides but they are too expensive. Now IMHO the Shick Quattro shaves as well and the carts cost only around a buck each when bought in bulk. ( and they last for weeks) A Trac II doesn't work well for me ( I wish it did). Either way isn't it really about enjoying the shave ? To me the magic and enjoyment of the shave comes from the brush + soap and or cream. Add some alum, slap on some AS and you have an experience. Being able to enjoy what was once considered a mundane task is priceless. The hardware used is not what is important.
