Beautiful is the way to describe this shave thanks to my friend Veli, who sent me this wonderful SuperMax Menthol cream. It smells so nice, it lathers great, and it's about a Level B on my Menthol Scale, so it's quite cooling. The Anherb stuff is icy enough to be Level A, and the Rubby Dub Dub is Level A plus. Sorry for not showing pics today! ;) :D

I hadn't used the Toothcomb Muhle for awhile (it's the most intimidating razor ever devised by man!) but, as Dirty Harry would say: "do you feel Lucky?" I answered; bring it! Surprisingly I have the angle and the technique of this razor figured out. This mornings shave was super BBS and no nicks, cuts or burn whatsoever! Now I understand why some people keep wild animals and poisoneous snakes, they just want to see how many times they can handle it without being bitten. LOL So, I guess my shave this morning with the Muhle R41 was my obligatory "walk on the Wild Side" to end this week of shaves. :D

    • Prep: Brush soaking in very hot water, face washed with Noxzema Triple Clean, warm shower.
    • Razor: Edwin Jagger DE89L
    • Blade: Feather Hi-Stainless
    • Brush: Semogue SOC Boar
    • Soap: Proraso Menthol and Eucalyptus (New Formula)
    • ASB: Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm
    • AS: Aqua Velva Classic Ice Blue
    • Post: Cold Water Rinse, Double Splash of Aftershave
It has been at least five weeks since the last time I used the DE89 so I figured that I would give it a spin today. I thought that I would try a hot water shave as I cannot tell you the last time that I had one.

Being that the weather has become cool I turned up the thermostat on my water heater so it does not take as long for the hot water to the bathrooms. The water is very, very hot now, to the point it would probably be dangerous if we had children in the house. Before going into the shower I put the SOC into a bowl, put about 5ml of water onto the Proraso and took a nice long shower.

I will admit, the face lathering with the Proraso today was better with the hot water. For this croap, the hot water actually seems to make a difference in the slickness.

The DE89 provided a great shave, much better than what I had received from the FaTip yesterday, smoother than what I guess a babies bottom would feel like (I know nothin' about no babies).

Preshave - Hot shower, Noxema face wash
    Cream - Proraso Sandalwood
    Brush - Tweezerman Badger
    Razor - Gillette Tech (new)
    Blade - Personna Red Israeli
    A/S - Brut

This afternoons shave was an OK one. New razor and im trying personna red's again. Cheeks and chin were great. Tried to go for BBS on the lower part of my neck right under and to the sides of my adams apple and I shredded it. I have a few stubborn hairs and when I say a few its literally about 15 hairs on each side that I just cant seem to cut down all the way. It was annoying me so after a great three pass shave I lathered up just that spot about another 5 times to try to get them. I tried J Hooking and a diagonal cut but they are still there. Everywhere else on my face is BBS and that spot is even a DFS but I can still feel then against the grain and it just bugs my OCD a little. :signs131:

Thanks Lloyd! I really began to doubt if I would ever keep this razor from eating my face but, it's all about a soft stroke and the right approach angle. Once
    you've figured that out; it's a pussycat! :happy108:

I had an awesome shave today! Here's today's lineup:

    Gillette New Standard
    The Colonel - Best Badger
    Vikings Sword - 2
    Proraso Red (old stock)
    Lucido AS

It has been several days since I last shaved. I love the New standard! It gets so close with just one pass, but with a second pass it left me with a fantastic DFS!

    Sunday:

    Turkish Horsehair
    Dovo Bismarck 5/8
Pascale Menthol SC :love055: :love055: :love055: :smiley freezing:
Svoboda AS Balsam :love055: :love055: :smiley freezing: :smiley freezing:
    Chabrawichi 555 Cologne

I always look forward to my Sunday Straight Razor Shave, and the one that I had today was so wonderful and relaxing, as well as mega-BBS. This Pascale Menthol cream from Bulgaria was sent to me by one of the nicest guys in this group who you could possibly meet. The cream lathers so richly, it smells very nice, and it gives a lot of moisturizing, which helps the blade glide. The menthol effect is there, but it's not a face-freezer at all - in fact, I would just barely call it a Level C on my personal Menthol Scale. The Svoboda balsam is one of my top favorites! ;) :D

    Hot water soak
    Tabac soap
Mohawk brush (either very soft boar or badger)
    Krona re-doored Fatboy
    vintage unknown Super stainless blade

Three pass BBS (1-3-5 on the adjuster) with not one nick or scrape.

Final coat of King of Shaves menthol gel, left set a bit, then rinsed off. Felt great - almost works better as an after-shave app than shave gel.

A note on the Fatboy: the Krona doors lower the head profile considerably - note the protruding centerbar - and make for a noticeably different shave.

    • Mystic Waters SS - Marrakesh
    • Turkish #6 - Horse Hair
    • Vintage Gillette New OC - Long Comb
    • Perma-Sharp Blade (2)
    • Vifrex ASG:love055:
    • Barbon ASL :love055:
I decided to try one of my soap samples today, the Mystic Waters Marrakesh. I used it once or twice before but it wasn't easy to lather. However, I really like the scent. This time I chose a slightly firmer brush and loaded with a lot more product. I got a pretty good lather but I would still describe it as light. Not like Proraso for example which is thick, creamy and heavy. This was the first shave with the Gillette New OC with the long comb. It is easily the most aggressive of my vintage razors but by being careful I managed to avoid any nicks. Needless to say the shave was BBS! The Vifrex aftershave gel and Barbon aftershave lotion are two of my very favorite products.

I hope everyone has a great week ahead.

    Cheers, everyone!
