    Menthol Monday:

    #6 Horsehair
    Super Speed/new Shark
Aspis Ice Rain SC :love055: :love055: :smiley freezing: :smiley freezing:
    444 AS Balsam :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily:
Barbon AS :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily:
Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui EDT

Got to freeze that face off, oh yeah - give me that menthol, I need it, I want it, oh yeah, freeze me baby - it's soooooo wonderful! This Aspis cream is another Bulgarian beauty with awesome lather, a nice scent, and a great cooling sensation, and also the benefits of allantoin which soothe and protect sensitive skin from irritation. If you want to know another super-duper chilling combination, try 444 and Barbon. Both of these will make your face feel like you have ice on it! ;) :D

Well it's Monday morning and as usual the Asian Boys are leading the charge (Smoothy and myself that is)! :)Of course being a day ahead helps, heh heh. I actually shaved about six hours ago. Jeff... thanks for putting up the new weeks SOTD on Sunday night as that helps us out here in Asia.

I recently bought three menthol creams: Gillette; Lea; and Palmolive. They are all really good but for me, the Palmolive is in third place. Given the low price of the Lea cream I think I would have to rate it first. The Figaro ASL is an inexpensive ASL from Hungary. It has a very pleasant scent with what I feel is a bit of spruce or pine. Perfect for the Christmas season. :santa Very enjoyable BBS shave today.

    Cheers, everyone!

Soap ? Haslinger Sandalwood, I think
    24mm Grade A

Great shave this morning. I have no idea what soap I used, best guess, Haslinger sandalwood. One change from the pic, at the last moment I switched from the 30mm to the 24 Grade A. So at any rate, the mystery shave was excellent. Have a good one. BTW, these older razors with a medium type grind (1/2 hollow or less) are fine shavers. I do have another, I believe it's a Wostenholm, but my son-in-law has it right now.

    Monday:

Hot shower / Speick stick / Cheap Omega Boar / Cheap plastic feather razor / Feather blade / Proraso A/S

I've been in DC for the last 4 days and brought all my starter gear (minus the shave stick and A/S). I was afraid my checked bag would get lost and so would my gear.

Yesterday stopped by the Grooming Lounge here in DC, I was expecting more options. I did pick up a bottle of Prorasos new formula of A/S and have to say I enjoy it. Also stop in AOS. I was intimidated by some of the prices and left with samples they gave me.

Well I did a Menthol Monday on Monday this week. As I am still experimenting with this not a lot of variety in gear.

    a new Sputnik blade
    HVH brush
    Proraso pre/post shave
    Palmolive menthol shave cream
    Proraso Shave Balm
    AV Ice Blue AS.

All in all a very nice shave -smooth, no irritation at all.

Shave of the Day (SOTD) Merkur/Menthol Monday November 19, 2012
    [IMG]
    • Prep: Brush soaking in very hot water, face washed with Noxzema Triple Clean, warm shower.
    • Razor: Merkur 500 Progress
    • Blade: Personna Medical Prep
    • Brush: Semogue 620 Boar
    • Soap: Proraso Menthol and Eucalyptus (New Formula) with added Menthol
    • AS: Aqua Velva Classic Ice Blue with added Menthol
    • Post: Cold Water Rinse, Double Splash of Aftershave
I decided to add some additional menthol to the Proraso and Aqua Velva. That really kicked down the freeze level to 30 below.

Another great shave with the Progress. It seems that no matter which blade that I toss into it, that it performs flawlessly.

Sunday into Monday is always the day which I have the least amount of sleep. I need a razor that I can shave with half asleep, and this is definitely it.

I have used so much menthol today that I cannot feel my face, it is frozen like I have frostbite....but in a good way ;)

    Monday

Prep: Hot shower, TSD ISZ PSB, hand strop blade
CD: 100 Blues Masters, disc 2
Coffee: Home roasted, fresh ground Kenyan AA, BLACK
    Cream: C.O. Bigelow
    Brush: Vulfix 406, The Burlington
    Razor: Gillette OLD Type
Blade: Astra SP, day 1, 3 passes
Post: Cold water rinse, ice water splash, Osage Rub, B&BW Oak, hand strop blade
    'Stache Wax: Steve's Own

A little too much water that made for a lather that was just a tad thin. Good enough to use and had a darn near BBS shave.

    19.11.2012 - Cream week.

To start off the cream week, I decided that the blue Proraso would be an excellent choice. Proraso being Proraso and me being slightly disappointed was good enough reason to give this one another go.
And I have to say that I am still not convinced that this is the Proraso I (kind of) know and love. The smell reminds me of a newly washed piece of cloth that has gone sour. I can detect the clean smell of soap, but also the sour smell of stale clothing.
I am not certain on how I can properly describe it, but you get the idea.

I also used some of the blue proraso AS balm, and I get a similar association from this one. But now I was reminded of fresh laundry hanging in a stale and damp cellar.

The lather would probably be just perfect if I just managed to do it right. First I added too much water, then I added too much cream to compensate. After working it for a few minutes I called quits and just shaved with what I got.

Ended up with a tingling DFS, probably due to the Progress being set too high, the blade being too sharp and me being less sharp :)

    Anyway..

    Merkur Progress
    Gillette 7 o'black
    Merkur Futur Brush
    Proraso Blue Cream

DFS (didn't want to push the Feather as I hadn't used one in I can't remember how long). No nicks, though.

Ol' Ingram whipped up like a dream (already rinsed it for pic). Menthol is not too potent, so for this time of year it's juuuuust right.

    Birthday Shave
    [IMG]

Been a while since I last posted in the SOTD thread, and indeed I've been mostly shaving in the shower with a 1966 Gillette Slim adjustable but it was my birthday today so I decided to indulge myself and also test the camera on my new phone.

Razor: Unbranded shoulderless German, probably sold as s souvenir but it holds an edge which is hard to beat.
Soap: Nanny's Rasage Traditionnel, one of the the best soaps around and an artisan soap at that.
Brush: Simpson 57, a gift some time ago from a true gentleman.
Post:Alum then Pashana Original, it might be a cheap aftershave but its still my favourite.

No shaving related presents, I have far too much stuff already. However I did receive a hi-vis coat as I'm spending a lot of time walking down rural lanes in the dark and at dusk taking the dog from fields to have a run about. The downside is that it makes me look like a traffic cop, on the plus side I can have hours of fun standing at the side of the road pointing a hair drier at passing motorists.

My 10 year old daughter made me some fabulous chocolate cup cakes, I think 'll have one now.
