Second time doing straight razor work on my face.

Pre shave: Shower, Proraso Pre/Post Cream.
    Brush: Semogue 1305.
Razor/s: Gold Dollar 5/8 and Schick Krona.
    Blade: Personna Med Prep.
    Soap: Mike's Natural Soap Barbershop.
Post: Cold water rinse, Thayer's Rose WH, Proraso Pre/Post Cream.

This time, the straight felt a little better, I moved from just doing my cheeks to doing my mustache and chin area. I still cleaned up with a DE.

Way to hang in there Ryan! :happy088: Glad to see you are making progress. The only way to master the straight is to keep doing it until you get the feel for it and the muscle memory, once you've got that, it's the same as the DE. :signs107:

Bruce- that's the exact thinking behind my motives. I caught my dad monkeying with it while I was getting ready to shave with it. He said he would stick with his Slim though. I think I'll get him to try it though when I do it a few more times. I'm just borrowing this straight now, so I'll have to send it back to its original owner soon. But it was a fun ride!

Sorry to hear the blue tube is a bit off for you. I'm currently in the process of (hopefully) getting some. Items like that are a little harder to get in Canada.;)

Colgate is a menthol cream? I never heard of it! I have the Palmolive Menthol and the Lea Menthol creams which are both wonderful. I wish there was a Canadian supplier for the Figaro aftershave. :)

Well... that's the typo of month, LOL!! :ashamed001: I meant to say Gillette not Colgate! Colgate is my toothpaste. Man, I am getting old, ha ha.
I will edit the post to correct the error. Thanks.

As a general rule, I don't use "BOBB" (Big Omega Boar Brush) with creams very much, but I am glad I did today. It is really an excellent all-around brush and very inexpensive too. Day 4 for the Perma-Sharp so I wasn't really sure about using it with the slant. However, I palm stropped it and it was fine. Last time I used the "Hammer" I had some irritation so this time I really concentrated on good technique and was rewarded with a comfortable three pass BBS shave. Not exactly what I would call an autopilot razor but for me I would say the razor is somewhere between moderately aggressive and aggressive. That said, it is not really a difficult to use razor.

    Cheers, everyone!

Today was my first time to use my horsehair brush to lather a Proraso soap and the results were fantastic. The lather was so rich and stable, and I could have easily done an extra two passes, but after the second one I was BBS. The new version of Proraso White soap is absolutely sensational - the same great scent, it's cooler-feeling, and the skincare which was terrific before is even better now. The Anherb stuff and the Rub cannot be beaten for a final freeze! ;) :D

    7/8 W&B
    Palmolive Lemon
    30mm brush
    AV Musk

This is my first shave with a W&B hollow ground razor(for barbers use), all have been wedges before. I had to make a blade correction so it was really dull. It took a while to get a edge on it but I had a superb shave with it this morning. Well worth the effort. I used some Palmolive Lemon, performance was good but the scent isn't for me, yuck. Have a good one.

Shave of the Day (SOTD) Tech Tuesday November 20, 2012
    [IMG]
    • Prep: Brush soaking in ice water, face washed with Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Cleanser, luke warm shower
    • Razor: 1967 Gillette Traveler Tech Head mounted to T2 Bulldog Bell Handle
    • Blade: Personna Med Prep
    • Brush: Semogue 1438 Boar
    • Soap: Tabac
    • AS: Aqua Velva Musk with added Menthol
    • Post: Cold Water Rinse, Double Splash of Aftershave
I just love handle. Although not as nice as a BRW, it is as close that I can own for a decent price. The Traveler Tech is probably the mildest razor that I own, but when matched with this handle and a super sharp blade, it provides an excellent, smooth shave.

Face lathering with the Tabac and the Semogue 1438 made enough lather for 5 passes if needed. Three passes and buffing provided a DFS that was smooth and irritation free.

I did not think I could make Aqua Velva Musk better...but I did. Menthol, and lots of it. My face is numb, I can barely feel it as I type. I can only one day wish to become an ice road trucker in the great frozen Tundra...but until then, I will just freeze my face off.

Today was day two of my shave cream week.
It was all the things I usually use
TBS Maca face wash and warm water
    Proraso pre/post shave
EJ 89 with Sputnik blade (third day)
    VDH boar brush
    nivea shave balm
    AV Musk AS
and the main course was Tabac SC.

Got a fair lather, more than enough for three passes and a coat while I was cleaning up.

The shave was again darn fine overall, a bit of clean up under the jawline but the rest very smooth. I like the Tabac it seems to be nice to my face and seems to have a nice scent as far as I can tell.

I've already starting to try to figure out what to use tomorrow.
