I have no interest in straight razors. I am getting good results with a DE and don't want to push my luck.
Merkur 11C. I was very disappointed with this razor and sold it shortly after I got it. It shaves well but doesn't have the aggressiveness of an OC at all. I'll stick with the old Gillette OCs.
I've never really had an interest in any open comb razors. In fact, I'm starting to thin down my collection of razors as we speak. I've tried a Slim, a Tech, Super Speeds from every decade, an injector, and a Krona. I can do away with everything except my Krona and my '63 Flare Tip; but I'm holding onto them in case I change my mind.
Schick Injectors. Had one, got really good shaves out of it (BBS and all), but the weight and balance were just not to my taste. I PIF-ed it along to a young friend, so it doesn't go to waste. New razors (well, perhaps the Merkur Future). I like vintage more
I like user friendly stuff so I will pass on the R41. Don't want the upkeep of a straight. Like vintage style razors so I will pass on the futur. My fav two are gillette slim adjustable and merkur 34c for reference.
I have recently aquired a Cadet OC and find the head FAR too aggressive for my face. So trying something with an aggressive reputation like a Muhle R41 really doesn't interest me, I'm just not into pain.. A vintage Merkur Slant didn't impress me in either closeness or comfort. I didn't like the shave or handling of the OCMM. I like early Schick Injectors, but the shave just isn't close enough. I've also tried a vintage "Cut Throat" and while it wasn't a terrible shave, I didn't find it enjoyable enough for me to want to bother overcoming the learning curve for shaving and devoting the time for proper maintenance and honing. Some vintage razors I have on the "To Try" list are an AutoStrop and a RollsRazor The Razors I Like List: EJ89 head paired with a Weber SS BullDog handle "Favorite at this time" All of the 1912 SE's and the ER 1924 paired with a BullDog type DE handle and the British ER Streamline Gillette "NEW", "New Improved" and "Fat Handle" tech Gillette 40's-50's "Aristocrat" and "Diplomat" TTO(strangely I didn't like the Super Speed that much) All of the Gillette "Adjustables" with the "FatBoy" being my favorite by a small degree _______ ________________ __________________ A modern razor I'm waiting to try when they come back on the market is the Weber SS in both the DLC and ARC head coatings. I'm not as interested in the Tradere,iKon or Pils mostly because of the cost of purchase, but I would certainly get any of them to try if they could be had at a more reasonable price...
Tradere, Fatip, straights, Cobra....had one but could not control it...two shaves, maybe. I really like the Vision, although it took several months of using it and putting it in the drawer for some time and now I use it often.
After using my mercury 34c and Fatboy pretty much exclusively, I ended up selling my super speed. It always felt light and non aggressive in my hand. Apparently I like the heavy industrial type razors. So, no super speeds for me anymore.
Past tense. He sold the Shake Sharp and it is now in the hands, or at the present time, hand of the individual with the microphone.
Nope, I'm not getting sucked into this thread! (Because every time I say that I'd never use an "X", I sooner or later end up with one.)
I have no desire to own any razors other than the ones I have now. And I have tried lots of razors. Most often used is my Gillette Long Handle Super Adjustable. I also have a straight razor and a custom 3 piece razor.
The one razor that I own that I can NEVER shave with without nicking myself.....is the Schick Injector L1. THE 3RD PASS ALWAYS GETS ME....and I have no idea why. Maybe its the blade and not the razor? But since the Schick injector blades are the only ones I have I will have to hold on to the L1 just in case I get a hold of some other injector blades that are a way better shave for me. But I do also note that with the L1 I have to use a bit more pressure....not due to weight but because it needs to be a bit more aggressive for me. But on the third pass its weird.....the whole blade doesnt feel like it goes bad.....just the middle of it....if anyone can make sense of this the blade seems to feel like its shaped like this after I start a 3rd pass ___/\___ . It feels like it gets a huge dent in the blade thats just scratching my face. I have never had any other blade do this....maybe its partly the razor too? Dunno but ima get some different blades soon to try. What different brands of injector blades are there? I only see Schick or Personna.
Bret, you may want to try the Schick Adjustable or the PAL Injecto-matic. The Adjustable is one of the most usable injectors and you can vary the blade exposure with the dial. Doug
I have a shavette and as long as I use a Derby blade in it....I get a smooth shave. But if I load it up with anything else....I end up lookin like Edward Scissorhands!
The Schick Injector Type E, circa 1935-1945, because for some reason that particular injector razor tears up my face. And I've tried 2 of them. I dearly love all the other Schick Injectors, though, and I have about 8 of them. The Gillette Super Speed Blue Tip, circa early 1950's, because it is way too mild for my average to heavy beard, even with a Feather blade.
