I'm sick of using Fusions and I'm sick of razor bumps and the NY Shaving Company is the only place that sells safety razors close to me. I really want to know if anything they have is good and worth the money?!?
Never heard of their creams, however the razors and blades at the very least are overpriced. Brushes not sure as they may be rebrands but I would only be guessing. There's lots of US based vendors online that can ship to your door for very reasonable (Sometimes free).
From what I saw things are WAY over priced!!! Go to "shaveabuck" Joe is a good guy to work with. When your there compare what NY Shaving Co. calls the "Stout Safety Razor" and sells for $40 to what shaveabuck has for $17. They look like the same razor to me. NY's TTO's look like Weishi's to me,but for a WAY higher price!! I.M.O. NY isn't offering anything special, BUT his prices are WAYYYYY TO HIGH!!!! Google the reviews for NY shaving co. You'll get an eye full. Very informative reviews...
Most sites offer free shipping on orders over 50 or 100 bucks, which could easily be exceeded if your getting a razor, blades, brush, cream/soap, aftershave, a stand, etc.. Also check out www.Italianbarber.com they offer some really great starter kits. If I were to start from scratch again, I would probably pick up one of those kits. Something like this is a heck of a bargain. http://www.italianbarber.com/beginner-double-edge-wet-shaving-starter-kit Although I'm a beginner myself. I'm sure some of the more veteran wet shavers could clarify which kits are worth purchasing.
Mike & Joe @ Italian Barber have great kits, almost any of them will be perfect for the price you pay. The one thing that sets them above the rest for me, is the customer service that you get.
You might want to check out Pasteur's Pharmacy, they have two locations, one is on 34th St. between Madison and Park. They carry much of what you'll read about on the forums.
JRod22 and Justin nailed it with Italian Barber. I've ordered from them twice and both times was perfect except the wait for shipping, which is to be expected. Also, their starter kits are great. You can also spend a little time on here reading reviews and hand pick your starter kit getting what you want to try instead of relying on what someone else put together for you. After all, the education is part of the experience. As was also said, there are many other vendors out there too. Amazon is pretty good for finding the lowest price sometimes too, but that will definitely require you to know what you are buying before you click the order button. And by all means, ask questions. Even if you feel it is stupid or has probably been asked before, ask it. Learn from our mistakes and experience but just remember, YMMV.
Second the suggestion to go to Pasteur's Pharmacy.. I am on Long Island and make a pilgrimage to Pasteur's once a year. I am due.... You will flip your lid when you walk in the door. Nothing beats being able to fondle the goods...
West coast shaving, Bullgoose, and Razor Blades and More are all great vendors I have worked with. They are very customer friendly and shipping is quick. $80 will earn you free shipping.
I would add Weber,Above the Tie,shaveabuck,bestshave.net and even ebay and Amazon all of which I have succesfully dealt with...
i tried the new york shaving company tonsorial shave cream tonight...what a great scent! very thick lather and easy to whip up. definitely a nice cream.
