    Neolithium I am Canadian, eh

The Black Handle SuperSpeed looks like it's F1 for the date code, which would put it 1st Quarter 1985, the Gold Tech is anywhere between 1938 and 1949, those 11 years they had no date codes so the true year is anyone's best guess. Beautiful condition! Enjoy!

The black handle super speed looks to be from 1985, not that old, only 4 years before my birth year.

Sorry, didn't see Justin's post until I posted. Thanks so much for the help guys. I'm more than thrilled.

Very nice haul indeed! Vintage items are really great... but when they are your Grandfather's vintage items, they are priceless. I am sure you will have a warm feeling in your heart each and every time you use one of those fine items. I think your Grandfather would have been both surprised and proud that you have decided to switch to "the old" way of doing things. I never got to know my Grandfather on my Mom's side because he died with I was just two years old. :(

Did some additional research look like the tech is from some time around 1946 due to its narrow grip with ball end. This means it not my grandfather's, it's my great grandfather's. Feeling quite nostalgic right now having acquired the razors from two men that I never had the chance to meet. I will definitely give both razors a try once I'm past my 30 shave rule or feel that my technique has solidified.

Don't worry too much about the "rules". Two schools of thought here: (1) keep everything the same until you really know what you are doing; and (2) change things to your hearts content, even on every shave! For my first 100 shaves I don't think I did it the same way even once!! Sure, it might be a *little* harder but on the other hand, you will learn more quickly how to adapt to a completely different setup. There are limits however... for example, I wouldn't try shaving with a meat cleaver until your technique is damn good!!

Slip up with this bad boy and you may end up without an ear!

    Cheers, Lyndon

That meat cleaver thing is nuts! :shocked002: Thanks for the advice Lyndon! What I take from it is, don't be afraid to change things up. I've gone through my baby 5 blade sampler. Have two new blades coming in that I will try, a new brush I'm switching to once it comes in and some MWF ill be using/alternating with my Proraso once it comes in. So I'm changing little things, just nothing big yet. Because if I change razors I'll have to retry all the blades to see what works best with that razor. That would be too much testing for me at once and overwhelming for a simpleton like me. :happy102: Once I find my favorite blades for my EJ89, then I'd like to go back and see what blade works best with the Black SS.

Erik Redd Lizabeth, baby, I'm comin' to join ya.

You can make a research project out of it and try to optimize to get the perfect shave, or you can just screw around and have fun. To me, the former seems too much like work.:sad038:

Super Jealous of your score. I've been looking for an F1 since that is my birth year for about 2 months. The search Continues. :angry017:

So, on the lookout for a knot worthy of the handle... The shave cream smells and lathers great!
    Thanks Oscar!
