    Roger that.

    Three days growth
    Hot soak
    Tabac soap w/glycerine
Ming Shi (Sally Beauty) DE razor.
    Rapira on 4th shave

BBS, no nicks. Bought the razor on a whim. It is really impressive despite the less than Gillette level build and finish. Moderately aggressive...maybe "aggressive enough" is a good description. Very good length, good balance.

Most surprising thing was the LOUD feedback, equal to or surpassing some SE razors...I suspect either my angle was way off (didn't seem to be though) or the scalloped doors allow some blade chatter that doesn't seem to affect the shave.

I'd recommend the razor to anyone who needs a cheap but good shaver and can't come by an old Gillette.

    Skin Bracer hyper-menthol a/s.

W.H. Morely & Sons Clover Brand
    Whippeddog 22mm Silvertip
    Proraso
    Thayer's Lemon Witch Hazel
RR Black Hammer w/Voshkod for touch up

Good shave overall today as far as the actual shaving goes. When I first started I figured I'd give my RR Don Marco another go. I don't know why but I can NOT get a good lather out of this stuff. Warm water, cold water, hard water, soft water, boar, or badger. I've shelved it and came back like 3 times now to no avail. Luckily I had my Proraso sitting there and just washed out my brush and used that instead. That little green tube is magic and never lets me down. I guess at this point I'm ranting but I'm still pretty annoyed. :angry019: Side note a guy on SRP said he had bought the razor I have at an antique place in WI and sold it to whippeddog where I came into it. A neat little piece of history for my razor.

+1 Gorgo....I also recommend the Ming Shi for any who want...it's a very nice shaver...very mild and loud, which I love...I had 3 and all three gave he excellent shaves...

I agree the build quality is not up to vintage Gillette, and 2 of mine kind of fell apart..one a door flew off when I closed it....but the 3rd one was going strong when I piffed it...actually I fixed the other 2 and piffed them aswell...and all the recipiants were very happy with them....

    Saturday's Shave-Day 6 of "Straight 8" Week
    2 min. hot whisker rinse
    Arko Shave Stick-bowl lathered/Omega 10029 Baby-Pro Boar
    Turkish Sedef Shavette/Astra SP D1
    1955 Schick Hydro-magic/EMS-Personna D1
    Arko-Nem moisturizer/Old Spice AS/Arko Cool ASB

This week has been phenomenal, and one I will never forget...
For one thing, although I'm not a pro, I have received a decent DFS, and relatively irritation free, at least not red, shave with the Shavette.
:happy096: that's what I wanted to achieve this week and I have....thanks TSD ! Couldn't have happened soon enough...I don't think I have any more extra blood left to practice with...:happy097:

I'm sure a straight is much more user friendly, but in some ways I believe the Shavette does separate the men from the boys...meaning: the shavette has to be the most unforgiving razor known to man...so it is a great way to find any flaws in your technique. For if there is anything about your technique that needs a little fine tuning, believe me, this razor will leave you bleeding til said flaw has been tuned...lol

I also learned, that now when I clear an area of my face BBS and with no irritation, doing it with a straight really doesn't bring me anymore satisfaction than with my DE razor or Schick Injector...Actually my Schick probably gives me more satisfaction for personal reasons...But I needed to get a handle on Straight shaving, and this week has shone (sic) me what it's about....and I can see how honing and maintaining a fine shaving edge is a craft to be proud of and enjoy aswell...but I'm afraid that whole experience is lost with the Shavette ...As changing a blade in the Shavette doesn't require the same kind of practice and skill, although I did draw blood doing this also...:happy102:

In fact...I haven't bled this much since I first learned to shave...Hmm Not True....actually....I've never bled this much with any endeavor short of a car accident... But I still enjoyed it and still got back up to the sink again the next day Shavette in hand...a word to the wise...I'm afraid the Turkish Sedef is actually pretty dangerous to change blades with.....I recommend not to risk it unless you are a gambler...:shocked003:

Now I would go out in style tomorrow, Sedef in hand, but I think I'll quit while I'm ahead and before My face is too scared to appear in public....plus I'm really looking forward to a nice relaxed Schick Injector shave....

    • Prep PSC
    • LEA Menthol SC
    • TSD M Bomb (menthol additive)
    • Baxter Silvertip Brush
    • Muhle R106 Razor
    • Bolzano Blade (1)
    • Racer Blade (1)
    • Nivea ASB (with extra menthol)
    • Aqua Velva Musk ASL
I am back to sorting out some of my lesser blades. I started with the Bolzano today which just didn't cut the mustard (or my whiskers). I would rate it as less than average in sharpness. Pretty rough on the first pass and very tricky in the chin area. I switched to the Racer blade next which was a bit sharper but still less than average. I will give the Racer blade one more try but the Bolzanos are just to dull to work for me.

    Cheers, Lyndon

After all the stress I had this week it felt absolutely heavenly to enjoy such a wonderful and relaxing shave with my Dovo Bismarck. The horsehair brush not only creates awesome lather, it also gives a terrific facial massage. This Fume Lavender soap is from Turkey, and it lathers easily as well as Arko, the scent is very pleasant, and it has a great calming effect on the nervous system. The Iced Lime aftershave and the Chabrawichi cologne which comes from Egypt seem to go very well together. ;) :D
