Im going to start DE shaving this month but am finding it will cost me around £50-60 to start off?

Mostly shopping at amazon i can get everything; razor, brush, stand, soap and some extra blades.

The are all decent brands and the cheapest i can find anywhere.

My question is where do the regs buy their gear from?

The brand im mostly going off is Edwin Jagger as ive read its really good.

    Thanks :)

Also wanted to point out that bullgoose also has one of the best value starting kits available at $75.

    http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/budestset.html

The BullGoose DE Starter Set is a great way to get started in wet shaving and it includes everything you will need. The set includes:

An Edwin Jagger DE89 -Recommended by Michael Ham, The Leisureguy, as the preferred 1st razor.

    A Semogue 1460 Boar Brush

Italian Palmolive Shaving Cream -Excellent skin care properties with a nice dose of menthol.

An Omega 226 Stand to hold razor and brush

    10 Astra Superior Platinum blades

Hmmm, sorry i forgot to mention im from the UK.

Is this American only website? It was top search in google so i picked this one :)

That is the same razor i picked from amazon.co.uk so thats good news atleast.

I can get a badger hair for £25 with stand i read boar is not the best?

The cream i picked is Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream 150g

Im not too sure on blades, but the razor comes with 5 Derby ones? I was gonna order a mixed pack to see which ones i prefer.

Thanks for the tip but im strictly UK i dont want a load of postage costs :p

Just been looking at the two.

One doesnt do Edwin Jagger and charges alot for postage, it is also more pricey then what ive come across on amazon?

The other is not in the UK and also has a pricey shipping cost?

Is there anymore? I know if i spend above £60 i get shipping free from the first but is £60 normal to start DE shaving? And what is another good brand to use since they dont do Edwin Jagger?

Try Italian Barber. I don't know if they ship world wide though.

I actually re-read your first post. I buy a bit here and a bit there. I shop eBay for razors (I'm a vintage kind of guy), Bullgoose for Mitchell's Wool Fat shaving soap, Ogalalla's for my Bay Rum AS, shaveabuck for my Figaro shaving cream, The Body Shop for my Maca Root shave cream, and eBay again for my Feather razor blades, Amazon for Astra SP blades, the TSD store for Skin Milk, Rite-Aid for the Real Shaving Co.'s shave cream, and Walmart for Witch Hazel.

Alot of my shaving kit came from amazon inlcuding my Edwin Jagger 89bl. The Muhle R89 is comprable to the EJ89. They have alot of good stuff at amazon, it's all in the same place and many times at least in America you can get free shipping if you spend $25(15.63 gbp) or more. Definately get a large blade sampler pack. A word about the EJ89 as I said it is my daily shaver and has a "GREAT" shave head, the handle at least for me sucks however(I get that its going to slip from my fingers feeling when using it with wet hands) YMMV. I have the totaly smooth bl but I've heard the lbl has a better grip. I had to replace the original EJ handle. I've tried vintage Gillette Fat handle tech,Sabi T2, Parker HD, Durham Duplex DE handle and Greistshaving are all handles I've used, I finally settled on a Weber SS BullDog as I like the shorter 3" handle. Greist shaving has a very nice SS handle at a reasonable price that mimics the EJ89 handle in length and dia. but is "MUCH" grippier and heavier at 80 grams. The Greist shaving price is also the best out there for a SS handle, as far as I know anyway...:)

Hi im UK based (Merseyside) Amazon for the Edwin Jagger razor I have the EJ89L great shaver.
Good cheap soaps are Palmolive shave stick 49p from Tesco Its very good, the Palmolive shave cream is also good thats about £1.89 at tesco, you can also buy em from Wilkinsons for same price. buying both would give you more cash to spare for the hardware.

    Any questions just ask.

A brush stand is ok, I have a brush stand but really dont use it, it's not something you really need. But they do look nice and keep things tidy.

Ok well ive just checked and amazon stuff is all out of stock or 3-5 weeks wait times lol.

Soo, i think ill go for a Merkur? So which one do i pick? im looking at the 33C as the handle looks nice? Are all the head the same or different?

I think ill shop at http://connaughtshaving.com/ as it seems the cheapest if i spend the £60 and get free shipping.

Ive checked boots and seen a shaving bowl for 3 quid so maybe get that one? Also the soap mentioned above seems nice and cheap :) But i wanna try the one i mentioned first but suppose i could pick one of them up too to compare.

I though the point of a brush stand was to keep the brush alive? and dry it out properly? If i spend £25 on a brush i want it to last a while lol.

Apart from the Merkur what other razor could i go for? And what blades?

Sorry for the mouthful but if im gonna spend around £60+ i wanna make sure its money well spent lol, im sick of paying £15 pop for 8 blades that clog up after a couple of shaves! And it says 4 blades supposed to last 6 month? LOL who for a 14 year old?

Yeah i thought that also, better mixture and only 3 quid for 20 more, shame for the postage otherwise its much better :)

Heres the brush i have picked, Amazon do have it in stock so im using them for this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

If you can find better let me know :)

    Thanks.

    PS.

I have picked a cream over a soap? Is there any difference? I think the cream will be easier for me? They both work into a lather anyways so it should be the same stuff but in a different format?

    Neolithium I am Canadian, eh

Brushes will last decades if you take care of them (Rinse them properly, and let them dry in an open area that has enough space for it, not inside a medicine cabinet or the like.) Brush stands are not necessary at all - I have my £80 Simpsons brush routinely drying out on my counter just sitting on it's handle and it will last many years with that same practice. Once every few months a good cleaning with Borax or Shampoo to get the old soap deep in the knot is also important but you can find many of those tips kicking around the forums.

    Welcome to TSD :)
