1. Is there any advantage to Borax to vinegar for cleaning brushes? The reason I ask is because I have one and not the other.
  2. Other than the smell, none I know of.
  3. Not really. I just keep more borax around because my wife makes our laundry soap with it, vinegar is rare around here lol.
  4. Thanks
  5. Thank you, Neolithium! I just cleaned by new brush (a Da Vinci) with your method, and what a difference!! Now, can I really wait until tomorrow morning to try it out? I doubt it.
  6. I've never used Borax, but Oxy Clean killed the funky smell of a horsehair brush.
  7. Can this method be used for synthetic brushes as well?
  8. But, what do you put on your fries?

  9. Will synthetics have an odd oder as well?

  11. Hopefully not vinegar... Seriously, vinegar?? On fries? But why?

  12. Vinegar on fries; oh yeah. I'm gonna make a post of some my favorite flavor combinations, but vinegar on fries even beats fries with mayo!

  14. Yes - the little Tasmanian Syn, from which synthetics are made, has a strong musky odor. It takes a fair bit of effort to remove this scent... The plus side, for vegans, Buddhists, or what have you, is that no Syns are killed to make brushes - they are painlessly shorn and then released during a traditional Syn roundup each year, by native Synshears. Over the years these Syn shearing workers have come to be known by the title Sincere. I myself am descended from an ancient line of Sinceres, and I'm sure my Sincerity is very apparent in my writing and posting here on this thread...

  15. I typically use Borax but my wife cued me in on a little tip she learned from a women's magazine regarding natural hair cosmetic brushes. Any natural hair brush can be safely cleaned with baby shampoo. I tried this method and sure works great and leaves your brush smelling nice too!

  16. I'll be damned.. never ever heard of it before - I thought it was a joke, really!

What's the deal, do you cover all fries with it or just dip'em in it? Because now I have to try and see what the fuss is about - I might like it :) Sorry for being off topic...
  17. Fine. You caught me. Dipping works.
  18. I'snt it malt vinegar though?
  19. ya
  20. Makes sense. One seller (Larry, from www.WhippedDog.com) includes a little packet of OxyClean with his brushes, for just that purpose.
