Sunday: #6 Horsehair Dovo Bismarck 5/8 Ginger's Garden Ice Mint SS Anherb AS Conditioner Alcolado Glacial Menthol Splash Brut Cologne I'm sitting here with a coffee and enjoying the smoothness, or rather I should say the mega-BBSness of this beautiful shave with my wonderful Dovo Bismarck. I think it took me more than hour to complete it between my shower and my pre-shave prep. To this day I cannot believe how nice Irena's Ice Mint soap smells, and how great it lathers, and its menthol effect is STRONG. The Anherb conditioner is plenty chilly also, and it does wonderful things for sensitive skin. This might sound strange, but I find the Penguin to be slightly colder than the Rubby Dubby.
6/8 Hoffritz Acca Kappa H.I.S. 28mm knot This is my latest impulse buy. I put in a lowball bid and won it. Hoffritz never made razors they just jobbed them out. My guess is this is probably a Dovo from the 70's. It's pretty much like new, the scales are a little warped but I can straighten things out when I get around to it. The mailman brought it yesterday so I honed it up and finished it on a couple of naturals. Very comfortable shave this morning. I realize this could be the ugliest shave brush in the world but I made it up with whatever I had had laying around at the time. It's a great performer, though. Have a good one. online photo storage

Prep PSC Nivea SC Frank Finest Brush Edwin Jagger DE89L Perma Sharp (3) GFT Skin Food ASG - Sandalwood Aqua Velva Musk ASL Turns out the Nivea cream is okay. The last time I tried Nivea, I thought it was terrible. The little sample jar looked like it had enough for two small-lather shaves or one big-lather shave. I took the second option and used all the cream to make a massive amount of lather. I noticed the Nivea stayed longer in the "proto lather" stage where it was kind of wet with a lot of large bubbles. I kept working it and eventually it turned into a pretty good lather. It just goes to show you that sometimes you have to revisit certain products before you pass the final verdict. Todays shave was very nice. The DE89L is a really great razor. I like it so much I actually bought a second one! The GFT Skin Food is very nice but whenever I use it the first thing that comes to my mind is peaches. To me it has a kind of peach scent. Definitely the polar opposite of a more earthy Sandalwood such as Proraso Red. This next photo was taken out of my hotel window. It is the city of Ubon Ratchathani. You can see a good example of traditional Thai architecture on the right. See you all tomorrow morning for Menthol Monday! Sawatdee krap! Lyndon
SOTD Sunday 1-27-2013 GEM 1912 Lined Handle GEM Stainless Blade Proraso PSC Classic Shaving Lilac SS Semogue 1460 Boar Thayer's Witch Hazel Nivea Replenishing ASB No. 4711 EDC Home again! Land of good coffee and my home shave gear. The shaves I get on the road aren't much to brag about. Trying to see (without my glasses on) in a hotel mirror that's three feet away is almost comical. If I finish the shave with most of my facial features still in place I feel fortunate. lol I haven't used the SE's for awhile so the GEM interested me this morning. The Lilac SS and the No. 4711 granny juice was most pleasant!

Today's BBS shave brought to me by: 1952 Gillette Super Speed '60s Gillette stainless blade Tabac soap Kroger Arctic Blue a/s I can remember myself as a newb, dissing the smoothly competent ("boring," I called it) shave of the lowly Super Speed. What a FOOL I was. The more I use these pre-flare tip razors - doesn't matter which exact version - the more I agree with those who insist it was Gillette's high point for TTOs.
