Decent shave this morning. I found myself struggling with both the lather and the brush. The C&E is older than dirt, I found it in an old box while looking for some other stuff. It might be from the '80's or '90's. Anyway, I remember buying it in Minneapolis a long time ago. The second loft experiment was too long so now I know what to do. Have a good one, I'm heading for the shop.

    Saturday:

I used two new items in my shave today. The Semogue 2012 Owners Club and Super Iridiums.

This brush is the densest brush I've used to date. It performed differently then all my other Semogue's I have. Obviously due to the badger. The brush retained so much water and I wasn't used to that.

Overall I liked the brush and can't wait for it to be broken in.

The Super Irdiums were fantastic! I can see why they have a huge following.

    Brush: Semogue 2012 Owners Club
    Razor: 89L w/ Bulldog handle
    Blade: Super Iridium
    Bowl: DB Bill
    Pre: Proraso PSC
    Soap: MdC
    A/S: Proraso liquid aftershave
    EdT: Harris Windsor

I haven't shaved since Sunday. I was very happy to rid myself of my full beard and get back to a smooth face! :). I used my old Gillette because it is open comb and it and NO problem whacking the whiskers down! As for the product, Proraso is always a fine choice! :)

Proraso indeed is a fine choice! (BTW, I owe myself a shave with the Proraso Blue cream!)

Shave of the Day (SOTD) Saturday February 9, 2013
    [IMG]
Prep: Brush soaked in hot water, hot shower.
Razor: Matador Capa Dorado Open Comb
    Blade: Crona Diamant Stainless
Brush: Vintage Stanley Home Products restored with TGN 22mm Fan High Density Finest Two-Band Badger Knot
Soap: Proraso Shave Menthol and Eucalyptus with added menthol
ASB: Nivea for Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm (old formula, not pictured)
    AS: British Sterling
Post: Cold Water Rinse, double application of aftershave balm, slight amount of aftershave.

Today's shave is not much different than yesterdays, besides the handle of the razor, the blade used, the scent of the Proraso, and the aftershave.

Although yesterday's shave was very close and felt comfortable during the shave itself, within an hour my face felt raw. It is the same type of feeling that I get with an R41. The only different between Tuesday and Friday's shave was the SuperMax SP. Today I went back to the Crona and I can say after an hour that my face feels fine. Although the SuperMax SP has always been a favorite, I am finding it not to be a joy in this razor. Tomorrow I think I shave put it in a Tech or NEW and see if it fairs any better.

My wife had made a comment about the British Sterling, she asked "what are you wearing"? An eyebrow went up because I thought she would praise my manliness, instead I was greeted with "I liked what you wore yesterday better!" This is now the third time she has mentioned how much she liked the Skin Bracer Cool Spice...figures that she likes something that is hard to find.

    Wilkinson Bonded
    Tabac soap
    Afta a/s balm

Found a cased unit at a flea market today and couldn't wait to get home to take off three days growth. It is hands down the finest cartridge razor I ever used, no doubt due to the '70s quality Wilkinson edge. Even if you despise carts, if you ever come across one of these do not hesitate to try it. You won't regret it.

Superlather (Über in this case) Saturday!

    * Shower
    • Soap: Gillette Hydrator Body Wash
    • Shampoo: Head & Shoulders 2-n-1

    * Shave
    • Prep: Nivea Face Scrub
    • Razor: Merkur 180 Long Handle
    • Blade: Wilkinson Sword
    • Brush: Van Der Hagen Badger
    • Soap/Cream/Lather: Williams Mug Soap, C.O. Bigelow tube, Glycerin
    • Post-Shave: Warm water rinse, Cold water rinse, Witch Hazel, Gillette Aftershave Lotion for Sensitive Skin, Aqua Velva Ice Blue
    • Blood report: Slight nick in the left jaw line.

Superlather Saturday. Amazing results. Lots of folks will knock Williams but I'm a fan of it and when mixed with Bigelow it works wonders. YMMV

Feb 9th, The mid day shave:

    Music: Sovereign Grace
Prep: Warm wash with 365 French Milled Glycerin Soap (unscented)
    Pre-Shave: American Crew Pre-Shave Oil
    The Shave:
    * Brush: Colonel Conk Pure Badger
    *Soap: Classic Large Cake (Vanilla)
*Razor: Merkur 30c (still trying to find exactly what Merkur I was given, as it looks like the 30c, but does not have the black handle)
    *Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (New)
    * 3 Passes: N-S, S-N, Ear-Chin
    *Blade Buffing in trouble spots
Post Shave: Wash with remaining lather, Hot Rinse, Cold Rinse, Witch Hazel

This was my first try of a different blade. I started and learned with Feather Hi-Stainless blades. The Astra worked really well for me, and seems to be a better fit for my Razor. It seems more of the blade is exposed from under the head of the razor with the Astra, as compared with the Feathers. This seemed to give me a better shave overall (though I got a little careless in blade buffing, and ended up with the worst nick of my short shaving career- learned that lesson!). Looking forward to finishing the week with the new blade before making a firm commitment to switch, but so far, it's off to a great start. image.jpg

    Floid vigoroso special edition

My royal shave order came Friday so for my shave today I used all my new goodies. The TFS performed great and smelled great. I read somewhere its just like the RR la familia soap and I see the similarity but I feel this performs a lot better. This was also my first use of any floid and it was AMAZING! I got the vigoroso because it was a little cheaper than the blue but I see that landing in my shopping cart very soon. Scent is outstanding, no burn for a splash, and the cooling felt great. Does anyone know if the amber is much different from vigoroso and blue?

Well, today is the first day of the Chinese New Year and the last day for my tube of Prep Pre-Shave Cream. :) It finallyran out!! I looked over my receipts and I see that I bought this tube of Prep in April, 2012. I have used it just about every day since so it has really lasted a long time. It was a good product but I won't buy any more for a while because I have several other nice products that I am eager to try out.

I had to get up very early this morning so I wanted a shave setup I could rely on. The LEA cream, the DE89L and the Feather blade is "known good combination" for me and this morning was no exception. The lubricating qualities of the LEA cream are just outstanding. After you have shaved away the cream, you can buff for quite a few strokes before the lubrication wears off. If you love blade buffing, you owe it to yourself to try this cream. It really is great stuff! This morning I had intended on doing just two passes to save time but I ended up doing three and got an excellent, close and comfortable BBS shave.

2013 is the Chinese year of the snake so maybe it will be a great year for Cobra Classics.
