So I "won" an auction on the bay and have a Gem Micromatic coming my way very shortly. I have never used a single edge razor before and I don't have any SE blades on hand. Can I expect to use the SE blades I can find in CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, rite Aid etc or do I have to go online for a decent blade?

    Thanks,

As long as you find them in the shaving section, they'll be fine. There's only a handful of SE blades to pick from, online or otherwise.

I use a 1928 EverReady aka "shovelhead" and realy like the shave it gives. In my experience or in my area I've only found two SE blades in grocery/drugstores the SS Gem and the one made in Korea(Dorco). I've ordered some Treets online. So I.M.O. for what its worth. The Korean blades suck "YMMV", the Treets are slightly better, but I can't get them locally and since they are a carbon steel blade will tend to rust easier, the GEM SS are the way to go I.M.O.!! Available locally, 10 to a pack for around $5,sharp, smooth, they will last me 1-2 weeks, never had one rust in my razor over that time period(I do dry razor and blade after use), I get mine at WalGreens...Hope this helps......:)

These are the ones that are in the generic Walgreens packaging right?

No if the blades are in a generic Walgreens packaging, there most likely the made in Korea(Dorco) blades. The SS Gem blades Walgreens sells are maked GEM in bold red letters on the packaging. At the Walgreens by my house(south Louisiana) the Gem blades are the only SE blades Walgreens sells.....:)
