I have about made myself and my wife crazy with car shopping. I really need to find something and make a decision. I'm vacillating between anything from a sporty convertible to a full-blown conversion van. The point is, I don't want something entirely practical, nor do I want anything that's going to be too expensive to drive/maintain. I want something fun and maybe a little unique. I want something that will make the occasional driver smile when they see it coming down the road (art cars fall into this category). On a semi-related note: This thing would look awesome with a batlogo plastered on the hood--
I'm partial to 70s-80s euro convertibles. My dad used to have a triumph spitfire. He also had a 1970 Olds 442 soft top that I was supposed to inherit but he sold the car instead....
Yeah, there's a 1984 Alfa Romeo Spider (graduate package with some upgrades) near here for $2000. It's got less than 100,000 miles on it. It's a temptation, but I couldn't work on it.
And believe me.....its going to need you to work on it...those cars are hobbies...tinkering and fixing aswell as driving...Super cool though is you're good at working on cars.... Mazda Miatas on the other hand are 'Bullet-proof'...if you like those classic Euro Roadsters...then might I recommend a pristene Mazda....all the driveability and fun of the classics with none of that high maintenance....Just make sure your mechanic checks it out before you buy...If it was taken care of...then it should take care of you...
My practical side says "get a small SUV like a Honda Element" (though I can't find one in my price range) while my carefree side says "There's a Chrysler Sebring Convertible out there with your name on it!" All while my mid-life-crisis side is curled up in the corner drooling. I think I'd like to get something I can camp in without having to hassle with a tent. But then I have to ask myself, how much would I use that feature? And is it worth it to buy an SUV or a full-sized van just for that ability?
Before it was squished between 2 pickup trucks on the interstate (the truck 15' in front of me and myself were at a standstill when I was plowed into), I had a 2007 Honda Fit manual transmission that I loved. Can fold the seats down and stretch out, I've camped in it a couple of times. It was a bit perky too and sipped gas. I have a Matrix now that can kind of do the same, but not as well, though still sleepable with seats folded down. The future mrs. has a Venza.
I was just looking at pictures of someone's Fit in "refresh mode" Do you think 2 people could sleep in there even remotely comfortably?
The crack is growing. I have an appointment for Thursday to get it replaced, but the snow we're suppose to be getting tonight has me worried. Really, really hope I don't wake to a shattered windshield. As long as I can drive it to the shop Thursday, it'll get done Thursday. If I can't get the van to them, it'll take longer for them to get out to me to replace the windshield.
Put a plastic bag, packing tape or such over the crack to keep the mositure out. If its under the size of a dollar bill, it can be filled. If not, then replace windshield. FYI in VA a cracked windshield will pass inspection as long as the crack doesn't pass by the drivers eye level.
Too late. It was discovered after washing the car, and it is currently raining. Thanks for the advice.. The crack was beyond the size of a dollar bill by the time it was discovered, and has grown since. And inspection is coming up at the end of this month. Besides, driving is stressful enough for me without having to worry about my windshield shattering. Not excited to have to spend money on this, but spending the money while you have the money is easier than spending it when you gotta squeeze pennies is worse. So now's the time to get it taken care of.
your windshield won't shatter the crack might grow but it should be fine till you get it replaced. Hopefully it doesn't grow into your field of vision
If it makes you feel better I drove 14 hours to buy a water truck that was entirely misrepresented. 7 there 7 back no truck and a very talkative employee that used all 14 hours to brown nose. I was tempted to make him pay for lunch
Yeah, I know it won't shatter per se, but the crack is all the way through the glass. And the windshield flexs.
Nope, doesn't make me feel better, but I have some hot cocoa with some Bahamas Banana Rum that is helping. Want some?
That stinks if you have full coverage your car insurance might replace it with no deductible. My buddies insurance did when I cracked the windshield of his Hummer with a 2x4 (long story)
