Used an I2 HM with a Personna blade this morning, and gave the Williams a day off and used Klar Kabinett. What a great way to start the day!

My I2's came in yesterday. Complete with old rusty blades. They definitely need some cleaning up. I need to figure out what model the Gem is. I like the looks of it a lot.

Yep, it's a Feather Weight. They were made from around 1953-1958, here's an ad featuring Mickey Mantle.

I think Mickey Mantle is the 'Numero Uno" celebrity endorsement....How could you top that!!! Now I want a Featherweight....Anybody want to part with one of theirs?? I think its time for me to enter the Gem side of the pool...;)

    Chrome I2 Hydromagic:

When during the 1955 - 1958 run were the chrome models manufactured ?
    (I'm guessing close to 1958)

Why is the chrome H2H-M release lever considerably longer than what is found on the gold model ?

Another thing I've noticed is the actual thickness of the metal is less on my chrome H2H-M,this is easy to see when I look at them side by side with the blade stops facing me....The chrome I2 blade cover is thinner.

Is it possible that the chrome I2 Hydro-Magic are perhaps a Type J2 or J4 "Shick 500" chrome head attached to surplus black I2 handles ?
That would explain the over-sized Hydro-Magic lever

    No lah, not true!!
    Far from it, in fact.
My Cobra is very much in grace and has seen 98% of all my shaving action since last November, basically non-stop (excluding several weekends and a few shave-free days during my vacation). The other 2% were straight shaves mostly, with 1 single DE shave.

And the only notable anectode about my current SE is that it has in fact cured me of ALL AD. Not only RAD but also SAD, BADx2, etc.
And the other anectode about my SEs in general is that my very first safety razor was in fact a SE, way long before I even considered DEs. I fondly remember my GEM 1912, Junior, Featherweight, Pushbutton & the lone Schick Injector I had. And without falling back into RAD, I might just get me a nice GEM or equivalent with a handful of blades, just for the fun. Since I have parted ways with my Rolls Razors (are they also considered SEs, by the way?) there is a bit of a void in the drawer.

Man...I've never seen the Chrome I2 myself...so I'll have to allow one of my more experienced team mates field this one...:) But I love my I2...I bet yours is a great shaver isn't it?
Atta Boy Smoothy....I love it when a man and razor find true love....I'm a sucker for happy endings..:love029:...I've told the bar-tender here at the party thread to give you and your Cobra a long tall shot of menthol 'on the house' when your anniversary rolls around....:eatdrink047:

Thank you Lloyd for turning me on to the I2 Hydro-Magic. I've been using it the past 4 days and it is my new favorite razor. I tried the Feather Weight a couple times with 2 different blades and it just didn't work well for me but I'm glad to send it to the guy who told me about the I2.

Not that important a question,it was something I wondered....my first ever original I1 and I2 are both black & chrome models
What matters most is yes... It is an outstanding shaver.
If I may quote Hoosier Trooper:

"They seem to have, at least for me, the perfect balance of efficiency and smoothness."

I love the injectors! I bought a 1912 Gem Jr. at flea market Sunday for $2 :bounce015: I hope it shave as well as the injectors after I get it cleaned up and some blades for it!

    Nice, thanks. :eatdrink047:
I do like the refreshed feel I tend to get after a good shot of menthol ;)

Although, the straights will be getting more and more face time, literally, in the coming weeks.

I used a Q-Tip and some metal polish but still couldn't get quite into everything under there. It did ok though.
