I've heard so much good about them and Larry and I was impressed by the tone and nature, I guess you'd say, of his response. Going silvertip but can't decide on whether or not to have the knot sunk deeper, 20mm instead of 10mm. Any recommendations?
I'd recommend to have it drilled deeper. I had a 22mm drilled deeper, worked like a dream. Tried a 24mm not drilled deeper and had a bit of flop to it.
Go deep! I like 50-52mm total loft for most uses. Plenty of capacity for 3-4 passes, but nicer, more precise action on the face. Pooped Pooch brushes are very nice - after cleaning (use the Oxyclean!) and the requisite hair loss for first 2-3 shaves, these brushes are very very nice!
I went deep and love it the only thing I wish is that I would have ordered the 24 mm knot instead of the 22
If you are inbetween on depth go 15mm. That is a good mix between having some backbone and still a decent amount of cushion.
Can't wait to see your pics. For what it's worth, I have a 22mm knot and 24mm knot - I prefer the 22mm. But that's me.
I think I'm leaning smaller knot too. The Omega 81230 that is my first brush is great for a boar and it's 23mm. I think I want that size or smaller so I'm thinking either 22mm or 20mm. The lofts are 55mm and going for the deeper option it's 45mm. Those are my two sticking points right now.
With the money I'm saving I'm getting the shave den lanolin soap and a sample pack of creams. I haven't had this much fun since I used to buy baseball and football cards.
It isn't just one depth option -Larry will set the knot to any depth you want. I had my 22mm set to 52mm total loft. That is perfect for me. Larry is out of stock on 24mm knots right now, but when he gets them in I'll get one set at 50mm total loft. You can get precisely what you want! You will love this brush!
Holy Toledo! that's all I need, more choices. I want them all! seriously tho, I'm going 20 or 22. Is your 22mm a silvertip? I may copy your roll there brother.
I'd also suggest having the knot drilled deeper. I just got a brush from Larry and the silvertip is SUPER soft, I'd venture to say it would be almost too soft without the extra 10mm of backbone. Also, just to give you peace of mind, his brushes are excellent, I'd put them up against brushes that cost 4 times as much, you won't be disappointed.
Thanks to everyone. You have all been very helpful. I ordered it last night. A silvertip 22mm, drilled the extra 10mm, ivory resin handle. Someone posted a pic of one they got from Larry exactly the same except a black handle, and then later a pic of the lather they whipped up with it and when I saw those I knew.
Well Brothers and Sisters, it was here when we got home from St. Augustine and I used it for the first time this morning. Man oh man! Nirvana! Kismet! Shangri- friggin-La!
