Wow! Sure cant beat that haul. All I got was: 100 Personna Lab Blue blades 10. Personna Med Prep blades for comparison A Merkur 37C - It's Slant Time! Cella Shaving Soap in Red tub A tube of Ingram shaving cream A Speick shaving stick A 1940's(?) Gillette Tech with ball- end handle "Made in England". Together with a pack of five Treet Platinum blades I think I'm going to need a bigger cupboard!
You're so lucky you can find all that from the markets and stores. We have nothing like that here in Denmark. It's mostly old clothing and grannys china.
While I was in Nevada for 4 months, the wife secretly plotted a change for my shave setup. She bought this big glass thing and set it up with all the stuff she could remember me using. So, I guess this is my set-up now.
That's a GREAT set up you have! I hope I never get to the point where I would need something that big. LOL Then, I don't think the SO would allow me to have more toiletries than her.
My dad called me today and told me he had found a straight which belonged to my great-grandfather, he believes. I don't know all that much about straights but it appears to be a 5/8 hollow ground Wade and Butcher Special. The scales seem to have been replaced but are very nice. The blade closes on the center of the scales. There is a lot of patina and some hone wear. I am hoping someone can take a look at these, admittedly crappy, photos and tell me what I can do to restore this and if it is worth restoring. Also *any information* about the razor would be nice. You can't see any of the markings but the blade has "Special" etched on it with a "lazy" in a circle on the left of the word, an arrow going through the word and a Maltese cross on the right of the word. The tang(?) or whatever has "Wade & Butcher" on the first line with "Sheffield, England" below and the same "B arrow Maltese cross" symbol underneath that. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated. It probably goes without saying, but I am incredibly stoked about this development. Thanks in advance for all the awesome information I am sure is coming my way
Finally, my birthday razor! It's not polished up yet. I just took a couple of quick snaps - but I'm loving it. I like the weight. Not going to shave with it until I get used to the Futur... one at a time... Here are some after shining (I thought I took different angles but I guess not... LOL):
You might just yet, this was utterly unexpected. I think the only reason it wasn't tossed out was that it was kind of neat looking.
Thank you! I'm really glad I got it. After seeing that straight razor, I may end up grabbing one "one day"...
You sir have one amazing collection, very impressive. By the looks of things you have basically taken over the whole bathroom space minus the sink tub area.
This beautiful Gillette Tuckaway set came in today. I can't wait to polish this one up for display. I purchased an antique barber's cabinet a few weeks back that I am going to restore and give a vintage barber shop feel to. It has a wood/glass door that I have the old hospital + sign on it. I am getting a sticker made that says 'Sport Shaving' and I will put this set in there along with a couple of others. I will post photos when it is all complete. It may take several weeks, but sooner or later I'll get it done.
mrs. gregindallas is a very cool & thoughtful lady! I dig how the glass shelves & mirror let you appreciate the beauties that would otherwise be hidden & back.
That is one sweet set, love the mug. You definitely have an eye for matching, because the brush and mug look like they originally came together. Glad you like it and glad I could help.
