Seems like I'm getting something new every other day, these days. This time it was a gift: one of my coworkers brought me a straight razor that used to belong to her uncle. She was glad to have a reason to get it out of the house because she has 3 smaller children and always worried about one of them finding and playing with it. I have to find out how to clean and restore it. Time to do a lot of homework. It says it was manufactured by F A Clauberg one one side and "Tonsorial Gem" on the other. That makes this razor pretty old!
Picked up the last of my pre big haul hauls. Musta been a 15 day auction or something because I forgot all about it until I won. 1957 Flare Tip Super Speed. Also bought some AXE Sensitive PS Balm, it's Vanilla! Smells great! I'm really liking the way my face feels after the AXE balms.
A lot of guys on here use that axe chilled face wash or post shave. I may need to get in on that, hate to miss a party.
That's the first one I tried too. At first I thought this one smelled of Vanilla, but now I think it's more of a coconut. Gonna see how it performs in about 15 minutes. All the cool kids are using it Josh!
Very Nice. I am not sure why, but it reminded me of the chair from PeeWee's Playhouse. Just paint some eyes on and tell it the secret word of the day.
I thought Alice in Wonderland when I first saw it. My employer auctioned it off for the American Cancer Society fund raiser. At first, you had to pay $5.00 to get the chair moved out of your office. What ended up happening is that people liked the chair so much they were not paying to dump it so we started charging $5.00 to get it in your office. The chair raised $600.00 on the $5.00 office rounds and then it was auctioned off. My bid of $200.00 won the chair.
Yeah, today the postman brought me a nice package! I bought a travel shave set through marktplaats a sort of dutch online fleamarket. after 15 minutes of degreasing with a toothbrush my new to me Gillette Rocket 500 HD
Wow, this morning I first used my Rocket HD with a Centwin Super Platinum blade! What a nice razor, the heft, the balance, the feel, the ease of shaving... it is a perfect match. It has to compete with my Ikon OSS for the first place The Ikon being a very mild shaver, the Rocket is more agressive but in a way it feels just as smooth. I think it's about time to think about cleaning the den and only keep the razors I use and like this much.
A Monsavon Bol a Raser shaving soap. Really cheap French soap with a good reputation A 1959 Superspeed Flare-Tip. Excellent condition, boxed with blade holder A 1970 Black Beauty. Not boxed but super condition. Looking forward to comparing the shave with my current go-to the Fat Boy.
Just in the last couple of days I've been wanting to try a Wilkinson Bonded cartridge (came out in the late 70's) for a while and finally got one to try. My shipment from Bestshave.net finally arrived. Two Turkish Horse #6 brushes and several packs of DE blades I haven't tried before. It will be interesting to compare the #6 with my Vie Long horse.
I hesitate to post only because I'm not posting pics at this time , but here goes. Stopped by the Georgetown Pottery studio in Freeport, Maine on our way up to visit with my folks. I'd been working with Lori about a G5 shaving scuttle. She said she would have one waiting for me when I swing by. It was there as promised! That was Thursday afternoon. I've used it the past two mornings and I really like it. Keeps the lather warm, just the right size for me, and I love the color - Hamada & Pirsimmon. Wednesday morning I put up a request in the WTB forum for a Pink Lady Gillette to give to my wife. Wednesday afternoon Jim "Luteplayers" tells me he has one available to send me. It was in my mailbox this afternoon (Saturday)! It's a beautiful razor and, yes, my wife is tickled PINK . Thanks, Jim!!
(This purchase is SO approved!) I got a 4 DE, 2 brush acrylic stand from Laser Etch.Cetera. I think I would like it better in clear acrylic. It's so cheap that I might order one in clear. I also found a 1940's Gillette that needs a major cleaning. I've always loved longer handle brushes and I'm looking forward to refurbing this one. On some recommendations, I got a few more blade samples, which rounds me out very nicely and gives me a great selection from which to find some to keep in rotation (currently Astra SP, then Wilkinson Swords are the ones I like of the 3 that I've tried.)
Antique store haul... NOS Personna Injector, NOS Schick Injector in clam case, green handled Schick Injector, Cased Flair Tip Superspeed, and NOS Schick Platinum blades.
