I've been using the Sensitive Cream with my plastic Sensor razors from these guys http://www.realshaving.com/products/ sold at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada. Now that I've got my 1952 Gillette Rocket, will this cream do the job?
Do you apply it with a brush? I just put a dollop on my hand and rub it in. Seems to work. Would a brush make a difference?
Agreed. You don't HAVE to use a brush, but you're missing out on a very pleasurable part of the ritual IMO.
One of the best value English creams. Few people knock it for performance. Those who don't like it generally don't like the fragrance which is very subjective. Kiss My Face is another inexpensive cream that you can use without a brush if you so choose. JM Fraser's is another cream that is widely available in Canada that is a good value cream. I use a boar brush. I tried shaving without using a brush today using the Real Shave Company Cream. It worked, but I agree with previous posters, a brush improves the experience if not the quality of the shave. I also think that you use much less product and in the final analysis. The brush will probably pay for itself. I would suggest you try an inexpensive Omega boar brush under ten dollars. The Omega 40033 is a boar brush that is ready to use and is $6 plus shipping. It works great as a face lathering brush as well as bowl lathering. It has a medium size knot. You could decide whether you need to go smaller or larger. I find the knot size perfect. You can judge for yourself if brush lathering is right for you at a very minimal dollar commitment. I have found the same experience you have with the after shave balm. It contains tea tree oil which can be a skin irritant for some. You might want to check the ingredients on the Sensitive cream for tea tree oil. The Real Shave Company Moisturizing Shave Cream has tea tree oil but it must be at a lower concentration than the balm because it doesn't cause me irritation. Enjoy the Rocket!
Exactly. I live in Canada also and truthfully and honestly I think the RSC cream performs fabulously. The only issue I have with it, is the scent.
I really think it is a great value in comparison to the 3T's. You might try adding a few drops of lemon oil to your brush or bowl. It really changes the fragrance of RSC to make it quite pleasant. It also works well with Proraso and Arko. NOW essential lemon oil is very inexpensive, 4 ounces-$12 and change. I have been using the same bottle for well over a year and have 2/3 of the bottle left.
Just picked some up at rite aid on a whim for 5$...im glad its getting some positive reviews from this crowd...ill be able to test it out for myself when i decide to shave, weekend starts today so no hurry
Definitely lather it with a brush. It's twice as nice, at least. I gave my one and only tube of this stuff away to a newb friend of mine, but not because of the performance. I am not a fan of the scent at all.
I tried the menthol version of the RSC cream but honestly, I could not feel any cooling tingle either during or after my shave.
One complaint I have is that RSC cream leaves a white film on my otherwise shiny Rocket, especially underneath in the nooks. Do all cream lathers do this? Does soap do it too?
My face is accustomed to the after shave now, so no more stinging. However I'm a better shaver now too, so I often skip the lotion and just splash on some Old Spice... now that stings!
Yes. And depending the hardness or softness of your water it can be better/worse. The soap scum doesn't effect razor performance. I look at it as a symbol of knowing I'm using "real" shave soap/cream and not chemical crud out of a can. An occasional cleaning will get rid of it. Scrubbing Bubbles works wonderfully for this-brand name or store brand is fine.
I've found creams have a tendency to leave more scum than soaps. It really shows up when you use a black handle brush.
