I am officially "pretty sure" I have some sort of gluten intolerance. I broke down and ate at Chicken Express last night. Had a roll, some gravy, and chicken tenders. Gluten city. The rest of the evening I felt pretty much miserable. Was feeling great all day leading up to it. This morning I'm still a little foggy feeling. It may all be in my head, but still, I think there's something to it.
May 1st. was the most amazing day ever for SWMBO and I! Our little Princess, Sophia, finally came, only a few days overdue. SWMBO woke me up 3am, told me she was in labor, 5am we drove to the hospital for a checkup (she hasn't been in labor before, so we didn't think it was time but just in case). Few hours later, 7.15am little Sophia said hello to us I was baffled when I got out of the room to move the double parked car.. sun shined and what not (and no ticket...). Wednesday May 1st. was a good day I haven't shaved since Tuesday so it's about time, but that's another thread
Great day. I get off work every other Friday, and this is one of those. Went grocery shopping this morning, I always find things I never intended to buy, kind of like when I shop for shave products online. May go look at cars today, about time to get a third car for my kids to drive. I dislike dealing with car salesman though (no offense to any forum members that are car salesman). I'm impulsive by nature, so I refuse to buy a car until a couple of days after I looked at it and have had time to reconsider, salesman generally try to close the sale while you're there. They're just doing there job.
Congrats! Great News! Happy Birthday to Sophia. I guess this qualifies as a valid excuse to skip shaving for 3 days.
Congrats on the new family member! I usually say that all babies look like Winston Churchill, but of course, your's doesn't! Cute kid. May she grow up healthy, smart and confident!
Congratulations on your Sophia! She's beautiful! I have a 2.5 year old little girl and still have fresh memories of being in that delivery room, and the way the sun seemed unusually blinding when I walked out of the hospital as a father for the first time. Enjoy the ride, there's nothing like it in the world.
I'm curious to see how this was supposed to look. What do you do with a happy accident like this? I would assume that melting it down to reuse is kind of out of the question with all the colour swirls. Seems like it would just come out as a big brown mess. Or am I totally wrong in that assumption? I know, "when you make an assumption, it makes an 'ass' out of 'umption.'
This was the first time I was trying a pot melt (GIS of some better examples). Instead of reading up on how to do it, I figured I would give it a go and it came out with predictable results. This was all made with scrap glass, and the blues and reds were too dark and took over. There are few neat little areas in this mistake, I will cut out and re-fire when I have some extra room in the kiln. They should turn out to be neat pendents or something.
this glasswork stuff is intriguing to me. I used to quite enjoy blowing glass in science lab. Is there a high barrier to entry into it as a hobby, or can I get set up fairly inexpensively?
Today is a wonderful day! I just got off the phone with a lady representing a firm that owns a ton of businesses. She contacted me a day or so ago asking if I'd be willing to apply for a senior accountant role. It turns out im a really good fit for the position, and I would be going in with a really good knowledge of their accounting software. Its about 5 blocks north of where I am now, making it easier to get to by bus, and it pays about 40% more than im making now. I'll be shooting my resume off this weekend. Here's hoping! (This one feels right...I am very comfortable with it so I hope I get it!) And let's face it...I have 2 weeks left at my current workplace until they (most surely) fire me. :S (that day can't come soon enough!!!)
I don't blow glass and am not sure about start up costs with that aspect, but for fusing, your largest outlay of cash will be for the kiln. I needed a tax write-off from the stained glass business a few years ago, so it would have cost me more money than if I spent it on a kiln. I have an Evenheat Hotshot which is the biggest one I was able to get at 120v. Anything larger would have required me putting in a new circuit. Retail is about $900, but I bought mine lightly used at less than wholesale (which was still too much.) Other than that, at a bare minimum you will need glass, cutter, pliers for breaking, mold release, molds. If my parents had not been doing stained glass for 30+ years, I wouldn't have most of this stuff as it was hand-me-downs. An economical way to try fusing, is to take a class. The local glass purveyor offers classes every so often on fusing that normally run about $25. I know Texas is pretty big, but I have purchased molds from a few places down there so there is a chance of finding one locally. If you were close, I would gladly get you up and going.
