Sometimes, an individual does not simply just keep the shaving to the face. Another place I normally shave in the underarm/armpit. You just simply can't stretch the skin even to get a clean shave! Does anyone else encounter difficult like me with straight razor at the underarm? Any tips?
The best method for you may depend on how skilled & flexible you are. I'm NOT very skilled, but am reasonably flexible, so I put the arm I'm working under in a tricep stretch position, much like this. Press your hand into your upper back or hold whatever's comfortable in order to stretch the underarm skin. I sometimes I gently hold the back of my neck or the opposite shoulder...Obviously, the narrower blades & mustache razors are easier to maneuver there.
Bummer. I haven't come across any tips apart from positioning or having someone else help. (One could try using tape, but that's more hassle than just using a safety razor or hair trimmer.) This guy posted a YouTube video, but it was his first time so it's not that instructional. I guess skin elasticity (from genetics, age, body mass) has as much to do with it as positioning & skill.
A slight variation might be helpful... such as putting your hand on the back of your head instead of between the shoulder blades. Or, if you have enough room, hand straight up similar to asking a question in class.
I cringed the entire time waiting for the gush of blood especially with the pitfalls of the canned gel, first time with a new straight razor, left handed, etc. Oh those wacky Canadians.
I debated whether to post it, but I admire his confidence. It's the only vid I could find with a clear shot of the actual shaving.
