Slant Saturday. The kids kept me up all night and we hit the ground running this morning, so I haven't shaved yet, but here's today's lineup:
    image.jpg
Bowl: Latte mug from the back of the cupboard that neither I nor the wife can remember buying.
    Razor: Merkur slant
    Blade: Trig (first time trying)
    Brush: Fred Dickinson travel brush
Pre shave: Proraso green (changing it up from the white because I need some menthol in my life right now - does wonders for hayfever)
Lather: Spieck stick in Old Spice mug (I can't ever remember how Speick is spelled, so I try and alternate ie and ei day by day)
    Aftershave: Gillette Cool Wave (GCW)

First time for both the Speick cream and the Sunrise blades. Both were great: the Sunrise blade felt sharper than the Astra but is at least the same smoothness, and I really liked the Speick. It took two pea-sized blobs of cream and about 4 brush-tip dips to get going, but is very smooth and my face is left feeling pleasantly tingly. Great clean herbal scent. I like this combo. I also like the Sunrise packaging, each blade is wrapped in the multi-color paper seen above, then enclosed again in white waxy paper. No wax spots on the steel, and it says "do not wipe blade" on the back of the wrapper.

youngunn Where's my TSD aftershave balm???

    SOTD @Ryan B edition:

I'm using the products that Ryan PIFed me today.

Pre: hot water, Neutrogena Naturals face wash, Shave Secret PSO
Cream: TSD Wheat Cream YSL type
    Razor: Gillette Ball Tech (PIF)
    Blade: Voskhod Teflon (PIF)
    Brush: AOS pure badger
Shave: 2 pass no touch up
Post: Hot water then cold water splash, Dirty English ASB (PIF)

RESULTS: First time using a ball tech and the ASB. Very impressed, the lightness of the ball tech is refreshing and it feels like a sports car compared to my Aristocrat. Lots of control and smallish thin head to get hard to shave area under nose. The blade I've used before but it performed better than last time. The ASB, I LOVE. The smell is great, reminds me of the smell in a nice antique store almost. Skin care is great too.

DFS+ today and no irritation. Thanks again @Ryan B

Erik Redd Lizabeth, baby, I'm comin' to join ya.

I had success with the hot air popper, you have to have the kind that swirls air in a circular pattern. I thought about buying a coffee roaster, but it's more a lack of counter and storage space than anything else. I had to buy my green beans online, but now there's a Whole Foods near us and I think they have green beans. I haven't home roasted for years, I should probably check out Whole Foods and give it another shot. You have to order a lot of beans online to make shipping worthwhile.

kind of pasty! its like... im painting a picture, and my brush is covered in paint. that's the consistency of the cream on my brush. and if I add ANY water, it seems to fall apart. im having a difficult time finding the sweet spot I suppose.

I would say try dipping just the very tips of the brush into the water or literally taking drops of water and adding them. I use both methods and seem to work well for me. It's worth a shot.

Schick E2 Injector with Schick blade (1)
    Barbasol Original,
Finish with cold water, Witch Hazel
    and Gillette Cool Wave!

Cold water two pass for a very soothing DFS!

I awoke with no burn and redness from bad lather mixing yesterday, so I was happy I could shave.

I kept my kit as simple as possible and my face was relieved. It's felt better then it has since I starting mixing lather with the C.O. Bigelow some time ago.

After yesterday I'm gun shy to try mixing any lather. The consistent lather of Barbasol is reliable and comforting.

    Aces!

    Saturday Night (live?)

Been out working all day in the garden with concrete and sand - exhausting!

Prep: Hot shower treating face with Matas Face Wash regular.
    Soundtrack: Smooth Jazz @ Sky.fm
Lather: Hot Haslinger Marigold in Korium Scuttle.
    Brush: Semogue 1520 boar.
    Weapon: Mühle R89 + Shark SS (4)
Post: Cold water, alum, cold water followed by Nivea Sensitive ASB.

No more shaves on this blade. 4 shaves is tops if pleasant is a wish (it is). So relaxed now :)

The Marigold is good but I'm not sure I'm that fond of it when all comes together...it's not bad but just not as good as some of my other soaps. It lacks the dot over the I. Lovely smell at least!

    Take care out there ;-)

Shaved bright and early, just didn't get to post it. I tried the Astra again hoping that it would have magically gotten much better since the last one I tried months ago. Unfortunately, I still had a fair amount of irritation. The shave was very good aside from that, but binned the blade and pulled out a Polsilver to try tomorrow. I wish the Astras worked for me as they are really inexpensive, but they are rough.

I like the color and the texture, but would soften the corners a little. The round tip blade with the pointy corners look sort of mis-matched to me. I like it a lot, just not quite there.

Saturday is often a no shave day for me, but my wife and I decided to get up for the 10:15 matinee showing of the new Star Trek movie. Cheaper and easier to get a good seat for the new movie.
