I know it's wasteful, illogical, not ecological, insane maybe but I know you do it. Wether you admit it or not, there are at least a few of you out there that lather the hell out of your soaps and creams. Well I want to see it, share your lather porn with us :D
Post some pics, tell us what you lathered , tell us with what you lathered ;)

To start off, this was today Tabac with cold water in a cereal bowl with a HJM fine badger

Excellent thread! Now all we need for inspiration is a picture of The Lather Lord all compulsively lathered up... If only such a picture existed. If only... *sigh*

I didn't take a picture but I whipped up a ton of Tabac this morning. I did know my GF was going to use it for her legs when I was done. There was still lather left when she was done though.

Looks about right to me. I like lots of lather in a bowl. It makes up for the times I just about run out when I face lather. Soap is cheap and I have too much of it! Use it up, buy more!

Here's some dense "ultralather" in a coconut shell "bowl" that I made for last month's DIY week.:D
    image.jpg

"Ultralather" refers to concentrated lather that is purposely made with a high soap:water ratio. This is not "dry" lather however, as it has sufficient water not to dry out. It's not everyone's cuppa, but I like to play around with different lathering techniques. For more on ultralather, click here.

    For enquiring minds...

Ultra lather = dense, concentrated lather
Uber lather = lather with added glycerin
Super lather = lather made with both soap & cream

Best lather = YOUR lather. Whatever works best for you.

"Marco Method" = soap-loading with a fairly wet brush. Favored by Italian barbers, especially for soft soaps aka croaps. Received its current name after a nice tutorial by Marco at B&B.

Is ultra lather really anything special? That is how my pop taught me to make it a couple decades ago. Use enough soap and then add water until you have a nice thick and slick lather. I don't really think it is ultra or needs a special name.

/That's just me and of course YMMV.

Nope, it's not revolutionary or as complicated as the linked thread would make it seem. It's probably what most folks used before forums & YouTube. But newcomers may get the impression that there's only one way to lather & the Marco Method (wetter lather) is the technique du jour.

On some forums a non-SOTD lather picture invariably garners comments about it being too wet or too dry or too whatever, so many folks (including myself) aren't very comfortable posting lather pictures. My post was a poor, rather circuitous attempt to dispell the myth of "perfect" lather.

As a soap fiend, I'm compelled to learn the kooky lather names & try everything at least once. But I agree that it's best to describe what went into the lather & the results. I will start doing that :)

I don't have any pictures but I can say for a fact I'm guilty. I almost alway over lather. I alway have and always will. I just like having a lot of lather when I start. As Swarden43 always says: "It's your shave. Enjoy it your way."

That makes much more sense and I didn't really think about newbies either. Also, I didn't mean to come off as a grumpy curmudgeon. I just see trends that I don't like with everything splintering into this group or that brotherhood. People really need to figure out what works best for them and go with it, not using this or that just because it is the flavor of the day.

I never fail to have enough lather for four to six passes, but I never have it slathered all the way up onto the brush handle or slopping over the sides of the bowl, either. Guess I'm just a border-line neat freak.

Please don't think I'm making a salad bowl of lather. I too am very need when lathering. I just seem to use a little more product than is probably required.

Based on this thread we may need some new terms, such as Mega lather, Monster lather, etc.
