  6. FAB FRIDAY

    A. PRE: Hot Shower; Lucky Tiger Lemon Face Wash & hot towel soak
    B. Homemade Pre-Shave Oil
    C. SOAP: Same Superlather combo last 3 days - Tabac & TOBS Creme
    D. BRUSH: Van Der Hagen BoarI decided to go back to this with some trepidation
    E. RAZOR: Day 2 of the Gillette New Bar Handle — in all it's brass & copper glory!
    F. BLADE: Astra SP - same ol', same ol'
    G. SHAVE: 3 passes & touch-up
    H. POST: Splas of refreshing 4711 aftershave; followed by soothing Nivea balm.
    I. POST-POST: Big pot of french-press Peet's Major Dickason blend — my day off, so I'm entitled to indulge!

Great lather (again), but the VDH brush is rather scritchy (think 'hand-broom') especially compared to the Silvertip (no duh!). It still managed to do a decent job of massaging the rich, thick lather onto my face. I'm beginning to become a big admirer of this New Bar Handle razor. Second consecutive great shave!

  8. Actually no, I just smirked and started shaving. As much as I might have wanted to, I have a rule against prosthelytizing half naked men in the locker room.

  12. PRE: Hot Towel + MR GLO Soap + Am Crew PSO
    BRUSH: 28mm "Best"
    CREAM: TOBS St. James
RAZOR: Merkur 38C + Gillette NEW (finish)
BLADE: Shark SS + Astra SP
    POST: Alum + Pinaud Clubman

    SS_130614.jpg

    (5) days of face lathering for "novelty week". I have found that in general I prefer to face lather! I still do like warm lather, so I will probably trade off between the "home grown" scuttle and face lathering. The TOBS St. James has a great scent like a cologne from back in the day that I can't place. The Pinaud did not have a great scent (for me) going on, but has improved as it has mellowed. Yesterday I tried the Shark SS blades for the first time and didn't have a great experience. Well...Today was even worse. I could not even get the blade through the ATG pass on my chin, so I had to finish up with the Astra that was in the NEW. Not sure if I should try a new Shark or just move on for now and come back to it sometime down the road.

    Enjoy the afternoon all!

    Torrey (thanks, Danny!!!)
    Vie-Long horsehair brush
    Ceramic bowl
    Vintage Williams (thanks, Danny!)
    Old Spice AS splash
"Vintage shave". I now see why Torrey brand is so famous. Splendid razor! Vintage Williams vs modern one is the same as Super Speed vs Mach 3. Absolutely in love for this razor and soap! Thank you very much, Danny, you sent outstanding stuff! The only question now is where to hunt more vintage Williams soap :) Very easy and comfortable DFS++!

  14. Dmitry, I don't remember - did I send you a modern Williams soap? I know that I sent you other good things, but I don't remember about this one. :)
  15. Okay... Couldn't figure out by the handle and pic who this is. It is nice to see a brother in arms here though!

  16. It's Chris...We only sat next to each other in Greek for a year! ;) CJames = Christopher James...Just rifle through the online den in my signature and see if there is anything you wanna try...I will bring some stuff in on Monday.

Have a great weekend man! For me...OTI exam this weekend!
  17. The Pinaud does takes some getting used to; strong at first, but mellows so its scent is detectable, but not overpowering. It reminds me of the old barber shop I used to get my haircuts at as a kid. My wife actually has commented several times post-shave that, "You smell good..." so that scores point for me with the product. ;)

Now I've 'borrowed' some of my son's Axe products in the past, and this gets a very strong reaction from both her AND me...("Sniff, sniff? What IS that? Bug repellent?") :D

  18. Friday night...

    Razor: '49/'50 Gillette SS
Blade: Personna Lab (love these blades!)
    Soap: Tabac, my old standby
    Brush: Frank Faux Ivory Handle

    rinse,alum, rinse, Nivea

    DFS!

    Sorry, no picture tonight.
  19. Axe Body Spray is for rookies IMHO. :D My dad wears it and me and him go back and forth when I call him a rookie.
  20. Oh, yes! I have a spare puck of modern Williams too. I used up the first puck you sent me, so I can say, I really like vintage version of Williams soap! If it was blind test, I'd say there are 2 very different brands of soap. Vintage one has great stable lather that you build effortlessly, has no that strange citrus scent. Well, I can clearly say if I ever found the second puck of the same Williams edition, I'll get it!
