If it's tallow you want, there are plenty of other way less expensive current production soaps available. I tried the original BB cologne as a sampler, and I don't care what famous person loved the scent, it was way too floral for my tastes. I'd definitely not spend that kind of money on a soap unless I knew that I could not live without it. This one suffered the same hype as every good phased out soap has suffered, it suddenly became very desirable. Doubly so given that the reformulated Pen's (no tallow) was a less than stellar performer.
I look at what some razors cost (recently here) what some guys spend on butterscotch, the Fort Knox some guys have in their dens or storerrooms, or what looks like warehouse space and I begin to accept a 55 buck puck.

Everyone has his or her poison(s), so I get what you're saying. While it's a soap I'm curious about, it is priced far above any individual soap's worth *to me*. There are many wetshavers and soap fiends who were thrilled when Phil scored that vintage lot, & they will enjoy the soap immensely. There are many soaps/creams in production that are as or more costly (MdC, ADP, Boellis Panama 1924) & they have many fans. The nice thing about shave soap is that you don't need a lot per shave, so one can often split a costlier soap among friends. That's how I got to try fancypants soaps like MdC & Tabula Rasa .
I'm naturally curious, if I was interested, I'd fork over the dough. I'm just not interested in this one. I bought a tub of Xpec so it's true that a "fool and his money will soon be parted". I enjoy experimenting.
I would like to try that soap, just to say I did. I tell you what though, ever since I figured out how to use Arko and Arko-ish soaps like Tweex and Derby, I pretty much want to throw rocks at everything else. These days, anytime I use anything else, no matter how luxurious the shave, I still end up with a red, irritated patch of skin under my bottom lip and chin.
thank you, I just never thought I'd be dumped on here for what something shaving related costs, especially when you can make a hell of a better logical argument for shave soap that you'll use as opposed to something that's exponentially more a something that you'll take a picture of now and then which i fully understand and sympathize with, hell aspire to even. Ignore me, my wife has my other panties all in a wad over something completely unrelated.
I paid $40 for a used bottle of Floid Blue and I felt bad about it. I like the Floid, but I still can't help but think that I could have used that $40 for something more important. Oh well, might as well enjoy life.
But the Floid is worth it and will last a long, long time and for 400 ml of aftershave, a great deal.
Far be it from be to argue about anyone else's taste or budget. But I can't personally imagine spending that on a soap, unless it also vacuums my house & dusts my furniture.

I've noticed a truism when it comes to shave soap. It only becomes worth more than retail price when it's reformulated or discontinued. What I find shocking is how many soaps stay at or near retail even when they are discontinued. This is a case in point.
No need for apologies. Just an old man venting because of a dress-down from my wife about an entirely unrelated issue. Hell I can't believe I was even entertaining the idea, as hard as it is to get a dollar out of my wallet for anything. I had buyers regret after picking up that puck of Williams for cryin out loud.
