Looking for what types or brands of L.G. everyone uses??? I've seen organic, I've seen vegetable L.G.....so I'm wondering who uses what???
Howdy! Yes, just plain old glycerin you find in a pharmacy. For a great lather use a few drops with your favorite shave cream and lather it up with your brush. Use a scuttle for warm lather. Works great for soaps also. Always, Gene
Most commercially-available glycerins are vegetable-derived. To me, the label "Organic" is meaningless if they don't provide details on who did the certification & what ingredient(s) are actually certified organic. Often the target customer is what accounts for price differences. Four ounces of glycerin will be much cheaper in the pharmacy section, then in the natural foods or the beauty aisles .
Did you ever find any? I picked up the cvs brand tge other day and tried an uber lather it worked out well for me...i think ive git my best shave so far with it....24 hours later i can feel stubble but it cant really be seen so its still passible
I've seen several posts talking about people adding glycerin into the mix of shaving soap/cream to get a good lather. What are the benefits of adding glycerin? I've never heard of it before!
Glycerin is a humectant (promotes moisture retention), helping ensure a thicker, dense and moist lather, which is the goal of ÜberLather
I just picked up a 6oz bottle in the pharmacy section at Wal-Mart today. I'm going to see if a few drops helps lather my Ogalla soap which I've been having trouble getting a good lather from.
Cool! Let us know how it goes. Remember to add extra water anytime you add glycerin, which as HR noted is a humectant. Also, be sure to rinse the brush thoroughly afterwards. You may need to use shampoo depending on amount used & water quality.
The glycerin is working wonders with the Ogalla and a couple other soaps that have been a little tough to get a good lather with.
I use a small splash every morn in the shaving cup or bowl to go along with whatever soap or cream or combo I'm using. Under $5 on-sale from CVS... I pour the contents of the CVS bottle into a comparably-sized brown bottle with a pump top & a single 'pump' is all that's needed.
I use the cvs as well ... I like it, but couldnt compare it to anyrhing else ive only used that brand....byt if its all 100% glycerin shouldnt they work the same? Idk
Ya know my Pop n I used to have a bio diesel company making fuel out of fryer grease and methanol. The by-product is Glycerin, you would have to heat it to 150 degrees to boil off any impurities but you would have pure glycerin. I've been thinking of doing this to make soap. more motivation
