Great shave. Started stropping my blade today based on a tip I got off of a TSD post. The process may add a few more comfortable shaves to the life of a blade. It takes about 30 seconds. We shall see.

SOTD 08-16-13. Forgot to take a pic. Sorry.

    * Shower
    • Soap: Old Spice Swagger bar soap
    • Shampoo: Head & Shoulders shampoo with Old Spice scent

    * Shave
    • Prep: Hot shower, Nivea Face Wash, Every Man Jack Signature Mint Face Scrub, Hot towel
    • Razor: Magic Shavette
    • Blade: Super Max (1)
    • Brush: Van Der Hagen boar
    • Lather: Van Der Hagen Deluxe soap
    • Passes: WTG/XTG/ATG/RXTG
    • Post: Warm water rinse, Cold water rinse, T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel pads, Gillette Intense Cooling Lotion, Pinaud Clubman After Shave Lotion

My 6th or 7th run with the shavette. Boy, did I turn my face into a scene from Saw. One of these days I will get it right. My neck is redder than the cast of Duck Dynasty. A co-worker asked if I was in a knife fight. That said, the shave was acceptable (lol?) It was pretty smooth. Quite bloody yet pretty smooth. I think I'll let my face forgive me before I go back to the old faithful safety razor.

    Saturday-Sample Shave Day

    Prep: Hot Shower
Soap: Queen Charlotte Key Lime Sample
    Razor: Maggard MR1
Blade: Gillette SP 7 O’Clock Blue
    Brush: Omega 10066 Boar

    Aftershave: Capt.’s Choice-Lime Sample

WTG-XTG-ATG (adjusted angle for my beard a bit)

This was the 3rd day with the Gillette 7 O’Clock Blue SP’s. The QCS Lime delivered a very easy and very good lather. Very good shave, nick and burn free. I finished with the Captains Choice Lime sample I won in a PIF. The CC Lime is nice, but not overpowering. It left my face in great shape.

A dynamite shave this morning with:

L'Oreal Men Expert Facial Wash :love055: :love055: :smiley freezing: :smiley freezing:
    #6 Horsehair
    Super Speed/Rapira day 6
Gada Cool Mint SC :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily:
Anherb AS Conditioner :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily:
Mennen Skin Bracer AS :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily:
    Chabrawichi 555 Cologne

I don't know how much smoother this could have gotten because I'm so BBS. My Super Speed/Rapira combination works like a charm day after day to clean me up beautifully. Wowwwwww, a small dab of the Gada Cool Mint explodes into ten tons of super-rich lather with a wonderful scent and a cooling sensation which matches Proraso Green. The Anherb conditioner and Skin Bracer are a great way to finish off a shave! ;) :D

    Sat AM shave

    7 O'clock Black (2)
Tech head (Rose and Rhodium) - Cadet Handle
    Arko
    Semogue 830
    Thayers Rose and witch A/S
    Pre de Provence Balm

The Black 7 O'clocks start to get stainy looking after two days. I got 5 out of the 7 O'clock green before they got discolored - and could have got at least one or two more shaves. Im still going to use (I'm only on day 2) this black blade till I feel a diminishing shave or pulling. Maybe I should ignore discoloration on the blades after a few days use - it just bugs me.

    Saturday:

Prep: Hot water compress, AoS Unscented PSO
    Brush: Beeline Boar
Soap: Ginger's Garden Jasmine Coffee Glycerin
    Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC
    Blade: Personna Barber (3)
    Passes: WTG, XTG
Post: Cold water splash, Dickinson's WH

Sort of a minimalist shave today, giving my face a bit of a respite. After 3 days, I can see why the Personna is popular, but I think it's not the best option for me at this point and with this razor, as it's a bit too tuggy with this setup - which influenced the decision to forego the 3rd pass. On to the Bolzano tomorrow.

Still only trust myself to go one pass with the straight! But this time just one small nick on ear requiring no styptic. Will probably take a year to be able to finish a shave with a straight completely, while getting similar results to the DE. It is nice to change things up a bit from time to time though! Have an awesome Saturday all!

Chris, I commend you on your enthusiasm & patience delving into the world of straight razors. If I ever decide to venture there, I would probably follow the cautious route you are currently taking (single pass; DE finish). But as I rub my super-smooth post-Feather/Slant shave today, I wonder if I will ever be compelled enough to make a switch. Curiosity is there, no doubt, but not enough to yield to 'Straight's Siren Song' at this point in my morning routine.
