So...I've been loitering around these parts for almost 2 months now; I've learned SO much and I've been honing in on my wet shaving technique. To grow my shave den, I've been to many, many antique store, flea markets, garage/yard sales and I've poked around Ebay and Craigslist religiously since then. I got to thinking - there are so many vintage and modern shaving products out there - what is everybody else looking for? A rare vintage razor...a $300 shave brush...soap made from whale fat? What shaving item do you desire...but just seems out of reach, a "myth" if you will? Post the 1 item that you've been drooling over, but can't afford. Or post the 1 item you can't find no matter how hard and long you've been searching. Or maybe it's the 1 item that you've heard about or seen online...but wonder if it really exists. Maybe through this post, someone may be able to help/find someone else capture their elusive Unicorn... So, what's your "Unicorn"? (Pictures welcomed) I'll go first: I've searched high and low, to no avail...for my BYR (Birth Year Razor) - Black Handled Super Adjustable aka "Black Beauty", 1981 first quarter production (date code B-1, plastic base plate) *sigh*...one day, she will be mine...oh yes, she will be mine! Tag, you're it!
For me, that would be a nickel plated Crabtree & Evelyn brush that I let get away from me. It's shaped like a Hershey's Kiss and it's the only one I've seen like it. I think it was made in the early 2000's. I can't even find a photo of it now!
It's close! It's more squat and wider, bulb shaped. I believe Edwin Jagger makes them but I haven't found it in their catalog.
I've got a 26mm HMW knot that I'm hoping to have Rudy Vey set in Jade for me. I'm thinking of going with the R7 shape, but the stubby/chubby is certainly appealing too!
Sorry for no pic,but most everyone knows what they look like..I've been lusting for a Toggle and/or Bottom Dial Fatboy since I first saw them on ebay about two years ago, when they were relatively cheap and almost affordable ...
I saw one of these on Ebay selling for the price of like a kidney or something. It intrigues me (style/shape) but I don't understand why it's so expensive. Is it because there was a limit production of them? Or does it have to do with the actual toggle mechanism? That one's a Unicorn alright...right up there with that $10k soap blanka wants.
Limited amount, unique shape, first of the FatBoy type series, people just seem want them....I don't think they shave any better that a normal FatBoy....
Just saw one was offered on Ebay for $600...seriously, for that amount, it should come with an actual fat boy to shave you in the morning. LOL ...ok, I'm just being silly - it's to offset the shock of the price tag. Hope I didn't offend anyone.
