I gotta' use the TOBS SC more! It's just a great shave cream and gets forgotten in the drawer due to the ease of grabbing a tube of SC instead. It's worth the extra 2 seconds to get out the tub and SC spoon to enjoy this great SC. A great shave with the FaTip Grande and russkie. Enjoy the rest of your weekend Gentlemen! :happy088:

Im not too impressed with the Rapiras. They pull a little more than i would expect a blade right out of the box. Yesterday was the same. Different soap, different razor, same slightly "pully" results. Id expect this at day 3 or 4 and although not horrible, Id like at least 2 perfect shaves out of a blade before feeling it.

Today's razor is one of those modern TTO's that you will find being sold under various brand names; Timor, Erbe, SF:Solingen, Frank Shaving, and Weishi. They tend to get a lot of bad reviews from people and I really do not understand why. The build quality is excellent, this particular model is very heavy for it's size, and the mechanics operate very smoothly.

The shave which I get from this modern TTO is better than any vintage TTO that I have owned, and I have owned many. Like any mild razor that I use I had to do three full passes with some light buffing to achieve the the closeness that I wanted.

If I had to rate today's shave I would give it 8.5/10, not bad for a razor that I picked up for next to nothing.

Enjoy your Sunday everyone. Tomorrow is back to the grind after having a week off.

I decided to change out the Gem stainless steel blade for a Gem carbon steel just to see how the carbon blade would compare. The stainless steel still has some life in it, so it gets to live in the Clog Pruf for a while.

I started out with a fairly straight forward set up: the restored Made-Rite brush with a pure badger knot, my 1912 with a carbon blade, and some Kell's Ultra Aloe Energy soap, but then I added on. I pulled out the Shave Secret for a preshave oil and decided to make a superlather using the Kell's and some AoS Ocean Kelp. I also decided to use some of my trusty SAL Alum and a dash of AoS Ocean Kelp after shave lotion. What started out as a simple lather and rinse sort of shave ended up being a product extravaganza. The picture does not reflect this change because all of that stuff is a pain to photograph together and because I already took the picture and did not feel like redoing it.

I did a three pass wtg/atg/xtg shave followed by a cold water rinse and my post shave add-ons. The results were a BBS shave with zero nicks and zero irritation. The superlather worked up into a nice creamy result, but the scent of the Kell's Energy overpowered the AoS Ocean Kelp. Next time I'll use some Karo Classic or Local Pig instead. The carbon blade was nice and smooth, but was not significantly different than the stainless steel blade. Overall, this was a good shave. My abilities with SE razors continue to improve and with that improvement my comfort level also increases.

Pre: Hot shower, warm water splash, and Shave Secret
    Razor: Gem 1912
    Blade: Gem carbon steel
    Brush: Made-Rite pure badger
Soap: Superlather of Kell's Ultra Aloe Energy and AoS Ocean Kelp
Post: Cold water rinse, SAL Alum, and AoS Ocean Kelp After Shave Lotion

53 is pretty low for that dense of a knot. No issues with it not releasing the lather?

I just checked the bloom on my 2000 after using this morning and it is just shy of 4". It is a little lofty at 59mm, but still my favorite of the Semogue boars. When that knot breaks in, the tips are almost feathery.

I haven't used MWF that much. My lathering skills with it are kind of rusty. I still managed to get a decent shave, but it took a little bit more than usual. The lather wasn't as slick as I would like it to be. The Captain's Choice really saved things for me.

This is really weird because MWF has lanolin in it and so does Musgo Real cream. The MWF has a lovely and classy scent and it always gave me super-awesome lather, but along with that super-awesome lather came such terrible irritation. I never experienced any of that with the Musgo Real cream. Now, is that strange?

That is weird Dodi. My problem with the lather was too much water and not enough soap. I swiped the brush across my neck and noticed that the lather was thin, airy, and had bubbles. More soap fixed that. I really like the light, refreshing scent it gives too.

    Conclusion Day 3:
Once again a truly amazing experience. Lavender's are among my favorite scents and this one is right up there at the top of the list. This variety has such a great clean flowery scent that mixes beautifully with the camphor which can be quite present in Lavender EO's. This soap is a breeze to lather in the wide-mouth tin. The lather it produces has plenty of slickness and makes a top grade in the protection category. Sad to move on from this soap, but I imagine this excellent soap will find a solid place in my rotation for some time. It will also be re-visited when I test all my Lavender soaps in the Lavender Fields competition. Scoring and Summary HERE.

Yep...Definitely strange. I find it to be possibly the slickest soap I have tried. Do you soak it prior to using it (while in shower)? You could let it soak in water over a period of say 12 hours. The fat definitely loves water! I did this with some Lavender EO and it whips up a great and super slick lather like a charm.

EDIT: Must have missed your reply about too much water ;)
