I've been using Proraso and a Feather blade this week, and my shaves have been better than ever. Today was the best yet:

Warm shower - Nivea menthol face wash
Proraso pre-shave green - soak brush and finish hair while allowing the magic to happen
Proraso green shave cream
Van De Hagen brush and bowl - excellent lather - better than my on the face tries earlier this week
Feather blade (5th shave- still going strong)
Merkur classic
Three passes
Cold water rinse
Aqua Velva
Proraso pre-shave as aftershave.

Results: got my first BBS! No burn or irritation. I have been really impressed with the feather blade! I bought a pack from a local old-school pharmacy on Monday, and I've been using the same blade since, with no signs of trouble. The feather really seems to me a better blade for my face than the Merkur - these are the only two I've tried so far. I really enjoy the menthol cool!

 

Feathers are those blades that some shavers fall in love with, and others consider too sharp, too pricey, or too short-lived for regular use. Blades are the definitive 'YMMV' product. I personally enjoy working Feathers into the blade rotation, but the Merkurs and Astras are my standards. Re: Proraso Pre/Post Cream— I liked the stuff, the menthol 'cool' on the face, but SWMBO hated the 'Vicks VapoRub' scent and so, alas, the cream has been relegated to the 'off-limits' shelf.

Round 2 with the Gillette Old Type open comb razor. Again, stellar performance. Beautiful razor. Used C.O. Bigelow cream for the first time in a couple of months. One of my first shave creams, big fan of it. Made a nice, thick lather today. 4 passes with the Derby blade. Got a small nick on my neck which cleared up immediately after the Post shave treatment. Got about 2 more days with the Clubman aftershave before it runs out. I'll be trying out something else in my aftershave stock next week. Clubman is definitely a favorite though. Easily. Love the warm feel it leaves me and the scent is great. I'll be picking more up after I use up some of my other splashes. Great shave today.

Thank you. Yes it is a photo album the razor and brush on top of a brick. The white brick is from a house fire from a house built in the late 1800's.

Tell us about that Emulsion. I'm on a Myrsol kick right now.

 

Emulsion has a unique scent in my opinion. I don't consider it one of your more typical aftershaves and it has a very medicinal scent and purpose to it. I found it to be a refreshing balm that cools my skin after shaving and is not overwhelming like some of the aftershaves that you may be used to. It is not alcohol based and blends nicely into your skin with little residue. And, you could splash some different A/S over it after about ten minutes or so if you prefer your signature scent.

It's a unique aftershave/balm skin treatment and I recommend that any Myrsol user place this bottle in their collection. My favorite aftershave in the Myrsol line so far is the Myrsol Blue and Emulsion has a place in my after shave treatment arsenal.

A hot shower was my prep today. I cannot say enough good things about the TOBS Lavender SC. What a great creamy soft luxurious lather. The ASCO Super delivered a smooth close shave for the fourth time. ​
