I know it's Williams week, but I've decided to take one last luxury shave before I start ripping off my face with a lackluster lubricating soap and 6 blade razor. And luxury shave it was. Took my time today and accomplished a DFS. The VDH Select is a great soap, not quite on the level of the Deluxe but still a high quality performer. Used my Pinaud Special Reserve. I don't like the smell out of the bottle however after it applies and dries a bit it begins to smell quite pleasant. Today was a great shave. Tomorrow my William's journey begins!

Today was my second go with the CJB. Tragedy struck when I removed the head plate to clean it, the tension spring that holds the whole assembly together snapped. I got hold of the seller who offered to replace the broken razor, so it's a minor set back. I don't know how many CJB and Sam Seong razor owners purchased their gear from Purosdave on eBay, but he's a good guy who is quick to respond to emails and does his best to answer any questions and right any wrongs.

I used Shave Secret as a preshave and D.R. Harris Arlington soap whipped with my mixed loft boar/badger brush. The razor, obviously, was the CJB with a Feather Professional blade on shave #2. I finished up with some SAL Alum and Simpson's ASB. Two passes (wtg/atg) resulted in a BBS shave with zero nicks and minor irritation on my jaw line. I'm getting to know this razor pretty well and I'm really liking it. I'm sad that it will be gone for a while, but I'm happy that I'll be getting a nice new replacement. I've already ordered a Feather plastic protector case and some Feather Super Pro blades, so when the replacement comes in I will be all set to welcome it home.

Pre: Hot shower, warm water splash, and Shave Secret
    Razor: CJB
    Blade: Feather Professional
    Brush: Mixed loft boar/badger
    Soap: D.R. Harris Arlington
Post: Cold water rinse, SAL Alum, and Simpson's ASB

The Gillette Stainless - I really want to like this blade. It is very sharp, feels smooth and comfortable. But does not provide me with the closest shave. Also it feels a tad rough in the third pass, and gave me a few weepers. Now I am inclined to believe that is my lack of technique and that a face that is not used to being shaved every day.

In another thread I mentioned that I am not too happy with my chubby Frank Shaving brush. But since I haven't used it in quite some time, I wanted to be sure.
I couldn't be more wrong. It whipped up a generous amount of lather, and felt very soft to the face.

For the same reason I chose Tabac for my aftershave needs. I have never been a fan of the soap, and I have never been a fan of the smell. But since I have a small sample of the aftershave, I decided to give this one another go as well. The smell was rather different than what I get from the soap, and slightly more pleasant. Unfortunately I took to much and instead of smelling like Tabac, i reeked of it. I had to wash it off and put on some balm to tone down any residual traces of it. The woman was not impressed :)

And there you go, that's how I spent my evening :)

    Fitjar Face Soap
    Merkur HD
    Gillette Stainless Blade
    Frank Shaving Chubby Badger
    AoS Lavender Soap
    Alum Block
    Too much Tabac Aftershave Lotion
    Fitjar Shea Buttered Moisturizer

Disregard the St. James sample. I replaced it with Tabac after the picture was taken :)

Day four with the Schick M2 and all is well. The Semogue 1305 does an excellent job face lathering with the Col. Conk Lime. Two passes and a clean up on the neck made for a near BBS shave followed up with Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS.

Today's shave was not enjoyable at all. Something obviously went wrong, but I have yet to figure out what it was.

Prep: hot shower, TBS Maca Root Face Wash.
    Brush: Vulfix Burlington.
Razor: '62 Gillette Slim. First pass was set at 7, the second one at 3.
    Blade: Personna Lab.
    Cream: Mem Original.
Post: cold water rinse, Thayer's Lavender WH, Captain's Choice Lime.

I would probably narrow down the crap element of the shave to my lather. I had a bad feeling about it when I couldn't get the right mixture of cream and water. I should have quit and went with my trusty Palmolive Menthol. Lesson learned. I also had 5 days growth on there. I didn't trim it down, which was another mistake. My face is fine, but my neck got irritated. I found that Captain's Choice is one of the best things I can use when my skin is feeling torn up. My neck feels better, but it still looks pretty rough. Hopefully everything is healed up tomorrow.

    Wednesday:

    Prep: Hot shower
    Brush: VDH Boar
    Soap: Ginger's Garden Coffee Jasmine
    Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC
    Blade: Sharp High-Chromium DuraBlade (1)
    Passes: WTG, XTG, ATG
Post: Cold water rinse, Dickinson's WH, Nivea Energy ASB
Cologne: Jasmin et Cigarette by ELdO

Between having run out of pre-shave oil, and choosing to load up a Sharp DuraBlade - a brand I did not get along with through the first uses - I was not expecting a great shave today. Careful attention to "no pressure," however, got me a nearly BBS result. On the downside, the application of witch hazel actually stung a bit. I'm guessing it has something to do with the lack of pre-shave oil; who knows.

So far, I like it much better than the brush that came with my VDH kit. It is softer and feels better on my face. Making lather is easy.

A wonderful and enjoyable shave despite feeling sick - there's a flu bug going around and it hit me hard. The Noxzema cream is my absolute number one of all creams, and always has been and always will be. I'm proud to say that even though it was discontinued, I managed to get a hold of around 7 tubes which I'm hanging on to. The Pinaud Bay Rum is another aftershave which I really love. Now, it's back to bed. ;) :D

    Prep: Hot Shower
    Soap: La Toja Stick
    Razor: Maggard MR1
    Blade: Personna Med Prep
    Brush: Omega 10066 Boar

    Aftershave: TSD Barber Shoppe-Iced

WTG-XTG-ATG (adjusted angle for my beard a bit)

I wanted to give the La Toja Stick an outing today. It provided a nice slick and well cushioned lather. Day four with this Personna Med Prep blade in the MR1. Another great shave as expected with one small nick at the base of my neck. I finished with the TSD Barber Shoppe-Iced. Great scent and conditioning with just the right touch of menthol added (still hot here).

93 degrees expected today……..ready for it to cool down a bit.

My cheeks were BBS and worry free, but my neck had 4 weepers and significant burn. When I learn to shave my neck better, these Derby blades might be the ones, since they are so much cheaper and work like a champ on my cheeks.
