St. Ive's has a good line up and its super cheap but all natural. I use the blemish control apricot scrub. Talk about cleaning out pores!

Here's a product I've been using recently as a part of my morning pre-shave showering routines.
One of the longest product names I've come across: "Shea Moisture SHAVE African Black Soap FACIAL Wash & Scrub BEARD LIFTER"
Available at CVS, Target & other outlets, it's an all-natural soft scrubbing 'paste' made from shea butter, african black soap and other skin-friendly ingredients that "...gently exfoliates, stimulates and cleans the skin, while healing ingrown hairs, razor burn and bumps, and skin discoloration."
Nicely scented, it does invigorate the face in the morn, is gentle, and since it contains a goodly amount of shea butter, leaves the face thoroughly clean yet feeling moisturized, not dry. Whether on not , it actually 'lifts the beard' is debatable, but I've had some great, close shaves following the use of this product.
An added plus is the price— about $9 for a 4 oz tube, but is often on sale. I picked up this and other Shea Moisture products at the local CVS for 60% off ($5.40 for a tube of this stuff.).

I've been using TBS Maca Root or just a bar of Stirling bath soap recently. Both do a great job at cleansing and making my face feel like a million bucks.

I've been using the Fitjar Soap pre shave soap for the last year.
I guess it is just a regular bar of soap with shea butter and black clay added. But I like it and imagine it to be just fabulous for both the skin and the shave

But when I am feeling feisty and adventurous I use Bulldog Face Wash instead

Shea butter does wonders for my skin. It might not work for everyone, but it does for me. I've heard about Fitjar, but never really checked them out.

I saw Bulldog at the local drugstore the other day. It's rather expensive, and having not heard of it before, I passed. How would you describe it? Perhaps I shouldn't have passed...

Fitjar is my "local" artisan soap maker, and probably the only one in Norway. I am very fond of both the soaps and the creams

I buy it from the UK and find it quite inexpensive. Less then five pounds, if I remember correctly. In Norway it is double that amount, so I like it because of that.
But it is quite nice, but probably not more so than most face wash products, to be honest
I've used the body shop face wash alot, and except for the scent, I do not notice much difference. Both are supposed to be natural products without too much "radioactive" stuff in it. Buth since the latter is about 17 pounds for a tube, I prefer the Bulldog

And for less than £20 or $33 I get a face wash, shaving cream, moisturizer, aftershave balm and body wash from Bulldog, imported from the UK. All excellent products at a very good price.

But if it is expensive in your location, I suspect you can get just as good alternatives for a better price elsewhere

I've got the oily skin curse too. I use VDH Deluxe on an older boar brush to wash my face, and it works great.
The best thing about using VDH is that it rinses away completely. I even use it to wash the lenses of my reading glasses.
This works so well, my daughter now does the same. She washes morning and evening with VDH and an Omega boar,
and finishes with a swipe or two from the Osma Alum block. She claims her skin is much less oily,
and the alum has relieved her acne trouble by at least 75%.

L'Oreal Men Expert is a facial wash which smells nice, gives awesome skincare, and has a nice menthol sensation.

I like Burt's Bees Sensitive face wash.

That's not neccesarry. It is only a small sample. I doubt you will get more than a few shaves out of it.
My intent was to pif it to interested parties here on forum. But I haven't gotten around to yet.

In Denmark it costs nearly $20 for a Bulldog face wash. That is, to me, a lot to offer if it's not outstanding. What I mean is that I get Nivea's Sensitive for around half that price for the same amount, and that one is amazing. So for twice the price, there has to be something for me to enjoy.

I think I'll look at the UK vendors, perhaps there's some savings for me also, shipping taken into account.

I just got home from Germany with one tube of the L'Oreal, only because I saw your usage of it - can't wait to shape later!

I never knew it was available in Germany. The one I use is orange-coloured and it's well-mentholated. You'll feel the cooling effect even more if you leave it on your face for a few minutes extra while you brush your teeth or if you wash your face with it first while you're showering and then wash the rest of your body. If I use a cream or soap with a weak menthol effect I use the L'Oreal stuff after I shave and then I brush my teeth while it's on my face and the cooling effect really comes out. Try it that way and you won't be disappointed.

It is available in Denmark also, but at twice the price. I think we're talking about the same product - this one is orange as well, and the writing says "Menthol". Can't wait to try it. It smells kinda nice, although I prefer no scents in my soaps/washes. But I think I won't mind with this one.

Yes, that's the one I have. In German "Erfrischendes Reinigungsgel" means "refreshing cleaning gel." It certainly is that. It does have a pleasant scent which is not overbearing.

That's the joy of living within one hour drive from the border - I can haul in products for half the price and get a nice drive with the family in return
