Nice shave this morning. Payday today, debating ordering a Shavemac DO1 2 band flat top knot. You know how it goes, "a fool and his money".
    Have a good one.

If there was proper beard reduction on your WTG and XTG passes, I would say yes, it is normal.

    TUESday
    Back -to-work Day

Pre: Hot shower & face towel, Homemade Citrus PSO
    Razor: Merkur Futur
    Blade: Merkur Super (Day 1)
    Brush: Omega 48 Pro
Lather: Combo of Speik Cream & Shea Moisture Shave Butter
Shave: Three passes + touch up
Post: Cold water rinse; Alum block & homemade Bay Rum AS

    A 3-pass BBS after a one-day 'no-shave' Monday.
The Shea shave butter has a really pleasant scent, and topping it all off with the spicy Bay Rum finish is a great way to start the day.
Having an ultra-smooth shave ain't so bad either. ;)

For some reason, I had the same issues with my 41' Aristocrat. Steve, as I recall, your's is the same vintage. I wanted it to be a smooth and easy as my other TTO Gillettes, but always had to battle with it.
Hopefully, the new owner is having better success with it. :(

The pack rat in me won't let it go!
I have 30 DEs (Mon - Fri), 9 SEs (Sundays) and 7 str8s (Saturdays) in my rotation - that means they all do get used. I know which ones work (BBS almost every time) and which ones don't (like the Aristocrat). I was talking with my wife this morning about the results of my shave and wondering why I bother to keep and use those razors that give less than stellar shaves. I didn't have a good answer. Maybe some day I'll thin the herd.

    Tuesday

    CeraVe facial cleanser
    TSD unscented soap
Oscar11 custom brush with HIS knot
    Schick type G injector
    Personna blade
    CeraVe lotion

The big Oscar11 brush made an excellent lather out of the TSD soap. I added some extra glycerin that made the lather even creamier. It's been a while since I used the Schick G. It gave me an excellent, close shave in three passes.

    Tuesday

    (no pic today)

Showered at work, so I only wet my face with a hot cloth a few times when I got home to shave. No face wash this time. Actually a pretty poor and lazy prep...
    Mühle R89 coupled with Q-Ball (5).
VDH Select soap whipped with Semogue 1520 boar brush in Steve Woodhead shallow mug.
Traditional 3 pass followed by luke rinse, Ajanta alum applied for 1 minute, then rinsed off with cold water.
Finished off with Nivea for Men Sensitive ASB. Rest of face moisturized with Nivea for Men Face Cream.

Interesting shave. Normally I don't find the VDH that good, also quite difficult to lather. Today I approached it with a much more wet brush and loaded it for some extra time. That made a lot of difference to the lather! Much more thick and protective than usual with that soap. Q-Ball blade continues to impress. I seriously can't really feel a difference from the 1st. shave with it and now this 5th. Days will tell how long it'll last me.

    DFS+++!

Awesome shave with the honest Abe this morning. This is a special razor and I had it custom rescaled by Glen (gssixgun) a few years ago. He did a beautiful job with the Ox Horn scales and now it's so nice it spends most of its time in the showcase mounted on the wall. I have to get it out every now and then to make sure it still works. lol Whenever I use this razor I break out the "Good Stuff" so the software is on the same par as the razor. :happy005:

Prep: Cold compress, Crown Co. Supreme Glide Pre-shave Lotion
    Brush: Beeline Boar
    Soap: VDH Unscented
    Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC
    Blade: Bic Hi-Chrome Platinum (4)
    Passes: WTG, XTG
Post: Cold water splash, Dickinson's WH
Cologne: Burberry Brit for Men by Burberry

An issue with the water today prompted me to explore the Polar Bear Shave well ahead of schedule; it was. . . an experience. I don't feel like I got as close a shave as I typically do with hot water, and got a little weeper on my neck, possibly from insufficiently opened pores. Overall, it's still a better-than-SAS, though.

Thanks, Bruce. The Black River was a fun little project and the best part was it actually came out smelling pretty darned good. ;)
BTW: I foresee a time in the not-so-distant future where I'll need to get your valued opinion on the various straights available (the pros & cons of various models/features).
