Bird Lives suggested I join the party and post a few photos of a Gem 1912 I just purchased and cleaned up.

I have an old se razor that a friend gave to me but there were no blades with it. What kind do I use and where do I get them? I have never used an se razor before and hate to buy a bunch. Thamks

You might try CVS if you have one around. I think they still carry carbon steel Personna (store branded) SE blades. Walgreens used to carry stainless GEM blades but they seem to have quit recently where I live. The TSD store has stainless ones in smaller quantities I think.

SE blades look just like the ones you'd buy for a scraper or box cutter but don't try to shave with those :)

Thanks. It took a lot of "elbow grease" to get it to look like that. I want to do a little more work on it before I use it.
I paid $10 for the razor and an old Personna blade box that contained one Personna blade, a Gillette Blue, a Smith blade (?), and a box of Gillette Thins. Not a bad deal.

While I was polishing this (and a Gillette Tech 1946-50), my polishing cloth never came away clean. I polished one section six times, and the sixth time left the cloth just as black as the first time. Does that mean there's still tarnish stuck in the microscopic nooks and crannies of the razor, is it a chemical reaction between the polish and the metal, or something else? Thanks for your insights.

Your polish is probably removing a small amount of finish and that's why the cloth/polish turns black. So be careful polishing too much.

I think she looks great! Nothing to do now but enjoy those great Gem 1912 shaves....Give us a shave report.....My money is on this one "stealing your heart" aswell as your whiskers...;)

Does that one have the curved blade cover or the flat with the bevel at the front?

I just got this beauty in a trade with richgem. It completes my Micromatic collection, and as an added bonus, it may be my birth year razor. Made in 1947-48, my birth year is 1947. Fifty-fifty chance. Can't wait to use it. Thanks, Rich.

I've asked my wife for a birth-year razor for Christmas. (Fingers crossed.)

I don't have to preach tomorrow, so the Gem will probably receive it's "trial run" in the morning.

I just now saw your question. I'm really not sure. I'd say slightly curved. If I had a couple pictures to look at, I could make a better call.

I've been using my Hydro-magic at least a couple days a week for a while now and today was one of those days. I'd use it every day but then I'd just sit around feeling my face and never get any work done. :)

I love LOVE my PAL Adjustable. It's hard getting the angle just right but I still adore it. I like it on the lowest setting. Aces!
